Preliminary statistics from the Customs Department show that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in September 2025 are estimated at 1.4 billion USD, a sharp increase of 47.2% compared to August and 52.7% over the same period last year.
This is a record high number that the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable export industry has recorded in a month, surpassing all previous forecasts. This level is also equivalent to the export turnover of wood and wood products - the top 1 item in the agricultural sector.
In the first 9 months of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach 6.22 billion USD, an increase of 10.3% over the same period in 2024.
According to the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), the impressive results of fruit and vegetable exports in September 2025 were due to durian continuing to increase strongly after recovering in August 2025.
Preliminary statistics from the Customs Department show that last August, Vietnam's durian exports reached nearly 589 million USD, up 55.2% over the previous month and up 9.8% over August 2024.
However, in the first 8 months of this year, durian exports only reached 1.79 billion USD, still down 16.2% compared to the same period last year. However, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association estimated that durian exports in September could reach 800-900 million USD.

In addition to durian, in August and the first eight months of 2025, exports of many other Vietnamese fruit products also increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024.
For example, lychee exports in August increased dramatically by 5,670% (nearly 58 times) compared to August 2024; the cumulative increase in the first 8 months of the year was 312% compared to the same period last year. Strawberry exports increased nearly 11 times, avocado and pineapple both increased 2 times, pistachios increased 2.5 times...
Notably, the export of many processed fruit and vegetable products of Vietnam in the first 8 months also grew remarkably compared to the same period in 2024, in which many products recorded an increase of 2-3 times compared to the same period last year. This shows that the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry is increasingly increasing the added value of products, promoting the export of processed products.
According to the leader of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, the advantage of processed fruits and vegetables not only helps stabilize domestic agricultural product prices but also increases the value 3-5 times compared to fresh products, while extending the preservation time.
Many forecasts show that the period 2026-2030 is the breakthrough time for processed fruits and vegetables in Vietnam. Because the demand for these products still tends to increase strongly in the Chinese, American and European markets.
If Vietnam makes good use of signed protocols, combines investment in deep processing technology and standard raw material areas, it can maintain a double-digit growth rate each year, making processed fruits and vegetables a stable billion-dollar export group, no longer depending too much on fresh exports.
Currently, businesses have boldly invested in more factories with modern production lines, expanded specialized growing areas and improved the quality of raw materials for processing fruits and vegetables, thereby meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of the import market.
Meanwhile, in the fresh fruit segment, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Group , said that the export of durian, grapefruit, longan, mango, dragon fruit... to all markets has grown strongly, especially the US market. By the end of September this year, the company's revenue is estimated to increase by 17-18% compared to the same period in 2024.
At the 10th National Farmers' Forum in 2025, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam recently said that grapefruit and avocado can be officially exported to the Chinese market.
According to the Deputy Minister, in 2024, he and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Minister of Commerce of China discussed the early opening of the market for grapefruit and avocado. The Chinese Customs inspection team has surveyed the growing area, basically completed, the protocol is being drafted and is expected to be completed in the next few months.
These two fruits can be officially cleared through customs in early 2026. From there, there will be an opportunity to increase the export turnover of the fruit and vegetable industry, said Mr. Tran Thanh Nam.
