International visitors increased by more than 516% compared to 2023

During the 2024 Lunar New Year, Phu Quoc International Airport will have about 454 flights arriving and departing; with a total of 84,508 passengers arriving and departing (of which 38,299 are departing, 46,209 are arriving). Meanwhile, there will be 104 high-speed ferries and ships entering and leaving the island, with about 32,295 passengers arriving and departing (of which 13,473 are departing, 18,822 are arriving).

In particular, on February 2, the cruise ship Costa Serena with nearly 1,100 international visitors from Thailand, the US, China, Taiwan... and on February 9 (ie 30th of Tet), the cruise ship Aida Bella with 1,979 European tourists, 90% of whom are German tourists, arrived at the port at 8:00 a.m. and left the port at 7:00 p.m. the same day.

Many 4-star hotels and above in Phu Quoc said that the room occupancy rate during the Lunar New Year holiday reached 90% or more, but the majority of the guests were international. Mainly Korean, Taiwanese (China), Polish, Thai, Russian guests….

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Adam Helmine Ingeborg - German nationality said: "Phu Quoc is so beautiful, I am impressed with the beaches here, clear water, calm sea very suitable for our family vacation. Seafood here is also fresh and delicious, reasonable price, not expensive like some countries I have been to".

"This is my first time coming to Phu Quoc, I was surprised to see that there are many interesting things here, the local tour guides introduced me to many beautiful places on the island. The most interesting thing is your traditional fish sauce, it is delicious. The weather here is very suitable for swimming", Ms. Antoncic Diego - Croatian nationality shared.

Mr. Huynh Quang Hung - Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee said: Connecting international flights to Phu Quoc is also one of the factors promoting tourism development from markets such as: Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Poland, USA, Mongolia, Taiwan (China) ... creating more opportunities for local tourism development.

Sharing with reporters, travel service businesses said that domestic tourists this year have increased compared to last year, but not as "suddenly" as in the summer of 2022. The reason is due to high airfares, people choosing to travel to localities by car and the increasing trend of "going abroad".

Sharing with reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Dieu - Director of Dong Noi Phu Quoc Tourism Company Limited said: The large number of international tourists to the Pearl Island in recent times partly shows the superiority of Phu Quoc tourism to international tourists. Ms. Quang Xuan Lua - Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Kien Giang province affirmed: The increase in international tourists to Phu Quoc in recent times is the result of the promotion and advertising work of local tourism businesses to international tourists.

In the coming time, the center will promote tourism branding, enhance tourism promotion in the direction of professionalization and regional linkage; develop tourism associated with protecting resources, landscapes and environment; participate in international tourism fairs; research the market and evaluate the province's tourism potential to select distribution channels and apply forms of promoting products, services and tourism destinations suitable for tourists, Ms. Lua said.

Decision 150/QD-TTg on approving the master plan for Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province until 2040 also clearly states that Phu Quoc city will be developed into an island urban area; a high-quality tourism and resort service center with its own identity and attractiveness to domestic and international tourists.

In particular, recently in Phu Quoc, many weddings of Indian billionaires have taken place, which is one of the advantages to bring tourism to the Pearl Island further in the future.
