(Dan Tri) - From having to dump tons of plums when traders forced down prices, many young people have now taken advantage of social networking platforms to trade agricultural products, achieving revenue of up to hundreds of millions of VND per live streaming session.
Humiliated at the market, "making a fortune" online "Today, Toan will show everyone his custard apple garden. Do you think this custard apple is big? I will shake it up so everyone can hear the sound of the seeds inside", farmer Bui Van Toan (22 years old, from Son La province) started with a curious introduction, while holding a big custard apple in his hand. In just a short time, the clip reached more than 7.1 million views.

On his live stream on Tiktok channel with nearly 130,000 followers, Toan displays half-cut fruits so that the audience can see the juiciness inside. With a bright smile and a sincere voice, the items keep "closing orders" continuously. At its peak, there was a livestream session that lasted 3 hours, Toan earned 200 million VND, equivalent to 10 tons of plums sold. On average, each harvest season, Toan's family can sell 40 tons of plums in just 1 week, instead of taking up to 1 month like before. This revenue is beyond his imagination. When selling in the traditional way, farmers like Toan just need to recover their capital, which is a very difficult thing.

Van Toan started his business on the digital platform in February 2023. At first, he only recorded simple videos , so very few people watched. The farmer immediately came up with the idea of livestreaming right in his garden, revealing images of thousands of fruits bearing fruit, making viewers "crave". "At noon, when everyone is resting, I livestream to sell products. From a few dozen people, then thousands of people come to watch. When I first started, I was very shy because I am a quiet person, but after practicing in front of the mirror and incorporating trending sayings on social networks, I became much more confident," the farmer confided. Born into a farming family in Moc Chau district (Son La province), Khuc Thanh Tu (24 years old) has also just brought agricultural products to the digital platform. From a situation of "good harvest, low price", losing tens of millions of VND, now Tu can earn a profit of up to 50 million VND in just 10 days.

Starting this business method in June 2023, the young man's Tiktok channel has now reached nearly 28,000 followers. In which, Tu often sells agricultural products such as Palermo peppers, wind-dried persimmons, plums, oranges, etc. At first, because he did not know how to pack and transport fruits, Tu lost about 20 million VND because he had to compensate customers. After that, the farmer learned from experience and calculated accurately, putting them in cardboard boxes with holes so that the plums would reach customers at the right ripeness. Increasing the value of Vietnamese agricultural products Khuc Thanh Tu said that trading agricultural products on digital platforms brings many unexpected benefits. In particular, sellers do not need to spend too much on premises and staff to operate a store, but only need to invest in a mobile phone and other supporting equipment.

Thanks to selling on social networking platforms, Tu brings his hometown's agricultural product brand to the whole country (Photo: Character provided).

"Previously, consumers preferred to go to the market to buy agricultural products, to see and touch the fruit before deciding to buy. But now, customers are willing to wait 2-3 days to eat quality agricultural products. Therefore, we livestream right in the garden, showing them up close how the agricultural products are cared for, packaged, and transported to create absolute trust," the farmer revealed his sales secret. According to Van Toan, the motivation for him to be determined to bring his hometown agricultural products to social networks is because he cannot forget the feeling of being forced to cry by traders. Toan has had to grit his teeth and throw away a basket of plums because he does not want to buy agricultural products at cheap prices. "When plums are in season, traders force the price down to 12,000 VND or even 10,000 VND/kg. Not only that, finding an outlet for plums is very difficult. Once, I traveled all the way from Son La to Ho Chi Minh City but had to accept returning empty-handed because no one would buy them," Toan said.

Not only do they earn high profits, the two young men also help prevent agricultural products from being forced to sell at low prices, creating job opportunities for local people (Photo: Character provided).

It was not until he started doing business on a digital platform that the farmer was overwhelmed when everything changed dramatically, Vietnamese agricultural products were elevated. "When sold via livestream, plums maintained the price of 19,000-20,000 VND/kg. Many people also ordered in large quantities as gifts for partners, superiors, relatives and friends, making the image of Vietnamese agricultural products very bright," Toan confided. Not only did he increase revenue, he also created job opportunities for many workers in his hometown. In addition, agricultural products of local households were also purchased by Toan at high prices, no longer being forced down by traders like before.
