The worst King Kong game of all time had an unbelievable development time

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên24/10/2023

According to The Verge , after its official release on October 17, the King Kong-themed game Skull Island: Rise of Kong has received a lot of criticism. Many negative images and videos of the game have appeared on social media, complaining about outdated graphics and gameplay. IGN reported that players called it the worst game of 2023.

The Verge spoke to one of the development team members at the studio IguanaBee that created the game, who said that the development of Rise of Kong took place in just one short year, starting in June 2022 and ending in June 2023. In addition, it was produced under contractual restrictions imposed by the publisher, namely the game company GameMill Entertainment.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong was developed in just one year

A former IguanaBee developer said that this was common practice when working with publisher GameMill, which is known for contracting studios to develop games based on major IPs in a short period of time, then releasing them to the market quickly, without regard for quality.

And so, IguanaBee was stuck in a never-ending cycle of having to develop games on contract with publishers to keep the studio afloat.

It's worth noting that a typical game can take anywhere from 1-5 years to develop, depending on the scope of the game and the size of the studio. Even independent studios often need more than a year to develop a game for modern systems. But developers at the studio have stated that IguanaBee tends to take on these types of 'hard to swallow' contracts to create games they actually want to make. But it seems that Skull Island: Rise of Kong   was not really successful.
