Apple is preparing suppliers for a surge in iPhone sales in 2026, with big expectations for the new foldable model.

According to a new report from Nikkei , Apple appears to be preparing supply chain partners for a surge in new iPhone sales in 2026.

Specifically, Apple has set a sales target of about 95 million iPhone 18 models by 2026, with the note that the new product line will not launch until at least the fall.

For comparison, the 95 million figure, compared to 85 million for the 2025 iPhone 17 launch, represents an increase of about 10%. The fall 2026 lineup is expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air 2, and a new iPhone Fold.

In addition to the expectation that the new folding model iPhone Fold will attract interest, Apple aims to increase sales across the entire iPhone 18 series.

The report also points out that Apple seems to be expecting a halo effect: Users are enticed to upgrade based on the flashiness of the iPhone Fold, but will eventually choose a traditional iPhone 18.

Nikkei further revealed that Apple is planning to launch trial production of the iPhone Fold at a factory in Taiwan. After scaling up resources and conducting quality checks on the produced units, the iPhone maker will then look to replicate the production line at a factory in India.

Previously, in a note to clients, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee also said that Apple could launch the first foldable iPhone in September 2026, similar to leaked information.

“Investors’ focus shifts to the fall 2026 launch, when Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone, as part of the iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026,” Chatterjee predicted.
