Nearly 100 new international students attend the opening ceremony in Vietnam for the first time

(NLDO) - At the opening ceremony, the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City Open University received a scholarship equivalent to 200% of the first-year tuition fee.

On October 14, Ho Chi Minh City Open University held the opening ceremony of the regular university and welcomed new students for the 2025-2026 school year.

The ceremony marked the beginning of the journey of more than 5,600 new domestic and international students. In particular, nearly 100 international students from many countries such as Myanmar, Philippines, Cambodia, Mexico, Mongolia, Laos, China and Fiji officially enrolled, contributing to enriching the multicultural learning environment at the school.

At the ceremony, the school honored nearly 500 new students with outstanding achievements in this year's enrollment with a total scholarship value of more than 50 billion VND.

Among them, there is 1 valedictorian of the whole school receiving a scholarship equivalent to 200% of the first year tuition and 100% of the following years' tuition, 1 salutatorian of the whole school receiving 180% of the first year tuition along with 19 valedictorian scholarships, hundreds of scholarships to encourage learning, local cooperation, and improve English and Japanese language skills.

In addition, nearly 30 individuals and businesses were honored by the school for their contributions to the Student Support Scholarship Fund with a total value of nearly 1.5 billion VND.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, Principal of the school, emphasized that in the era of technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation developing rapidly every day, students should foster the spirit of lifelong learning, always proactively update and adapt to new things. Consider knowledge as luggage, technology as a tool to master the future, become brave, creative and pioneering young citizens in the new era.

Class of 2025 is considered an impressive generation of students from more than 1,000 high schools in provinces and cities across the country. Nearly 50% of the new students have excellent academic performance and 190 students achieved an IELTS certificate of 6.0 or higher upon enrollment.

In this year's enrollment, the school will deploy 5 enrollment methods in 3 groups: Direct enrollment and priority enrollment according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; enrollment of candidates with international certificates; enrollment based on the results of competency assessment exams; enrollment based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City Open University will implement 51 bachelor's programs, 12 master's programs and 8 doctoral programs in the fields of economics , engineering and social sciences and humanities.

The current training scale reaches more than 40,000 undergraduate students, 1,187 graduate students and 154 doctoral students. The rate of students having jobs within 12 months after graduation is over 95%, of which 83% work in the same or related field of study.
