Dong Thap suddenly 'broke' the trend, pulling prices in the South down

The ASF epidemic situation in Cao Bang is showing positive signs and effective control measures.
Along with price fluctuations, the ASF situation in Cao Bang has shown positive signs. The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment said that since the beginning of September, the number of pigs forced to be destroyed has decreased by about 1/3 compared to August, to 28,485. Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has destroyed more than 166,000 pigs, accounting for nearly 41% of the total herd.
The cause of the outbreak was determined to be the ASF virus strain Genotype I/II, while the current vaccine only protects against Genotype II. However, up to now, 300 hamlets have gone 21 days without recording new cases, showing that the epidemic is gradually being controlled. The total pig herd is currently about 220,000, of which the breeding sow herd is focused on protection to maintain supply.
The authorities stressed that farmers must not be complacent. Measures to clean barns, disinfect, control transportation and ensure biosecurity must continue to be strictly maintained. Re-herding should only be carried out when there is an official notice from a competent authority.
In the coming time, Cao Bang will continue to monitor 43 key communes and wards and take samples for testing to prepare for the 2026 epidemic prevention and vaccination plan. These positive signals are expected to contribute to reducing the epidemic pressure and stabilizing the live pig market nationwide in the fourth quarter - a period of high consumption demand thanks to the year-end holiday season.
Experts predict that if supply continues to tighten due to the impact of ASF, pig prices may maintain a stable momentum with a slight upward trend in the last months of the year.
