The Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute has named three scientists , including Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell (all Americans) and Shimon Sakaguchi (Japanese) for their discoveries related to peripheral immune tolerance.

The discovery of these scientists is expected to open up new directions in cancer treatment.

In 2024, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to two American scientists, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, for their research on microRNA and its role in gene regulation. This discovery is considered a breakthrough in the field of molecular biology, opening up new research directions on the role of microRNA.

Each award includes a Gold Medal, a certificate and 11 million Swedish kronor (equivalent to 1.2 million USD)./.
