On the evening of October 3, at the Exhibition House 45 Trang Tien ( Hanoi ), the 18th Bui Xuan Phai Award - For the Love of Hanoi took place, honoring 5 outstanding works, projects and individuals.
Mr. Nguyen Thien Thuat, Editor-in-Chief of Sports & Culture Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that the award continues to honor the hearts, minds and hands that have, are and will contribute to Hanoi. Each work, each project, each initiative honored is a testament to the undying love for the Capital.
As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded: Grand Prize - For the love of Hanoi : Musician Tran Tien, with many songs deeply depicting the cultural source of the Red River, the Old Quarter, and the Doai region, contributing to making Hanoi a cultural symbol in Vietnamese music .
Tran Tien is one of the musicians who left a special mark in contemporary Vietnamese music. His compositions have a liberal personality, rich in improvisation, but always anchored in the depths of memory and culture. For Tran Tien, Hanoi is not only a place name but also a childhood space, the Red River, the Old Quarter, and the Doai region - the sources that nurture artistic inspiration.
In Ngẫu hung phố, he depicts a very ordinary Hanoi: sidewalk draft beer, grilled corn, childhood friends... Meanwhile, Phố ngheo is slow and quiet, reminiscent of brown tiled roofs, red almond leaves, old train whistles - small details but filled with nostalgia. In Mat troi be con , memories of Hanoi's childhood appear through the story of a poor girl, recalling his own dreamy childhood at the Opera House.
If the streets evoke urban memories, then Red River Improvisation elevates the river to a cultural symbol, blending Northern folk songs, creating a piece of music that is both liberal and rich in epic qualities. With Homeland , he takes listeners to the land of Doai, imbued with nostalgia, where folk songs, lullabies and images of the countryside blend into a deep voice.
Looking back, the "cultural triangle" of the Red River - the Old Quarter - the Doai region has shaped the appearance of Hanoi in Tran Tien's music. Thanks to that, Hanoi not only appears as a city, but also as a living cultural symbol, both traditional and modern.
The musician once confided: "Hanoi is my mother, my sister, my childhood friends. I have put all the things I need to say into my songs."
Work Award - For the Love of Hanoi (2 awards): A series of paintings about Hanoi by artist Pham Binh Chuong during 20 years "going to the streets" and the musical Fire from the Earth (Vietnam Youth Theater).
Job Award - For the love of Hanoi : Vietnam Exhibition Center, a project considered a new architectural wonder, a new symbol of the Capital.
Idea Award - For the love of Hanoi: Project to build Hanoi Opera House and cultural and art park in Quang An (Tay Ho).
