U.23 Indonesia made history when they defeated U.23 Jordan with a score of 4-1 in the final round of Group A of the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship, thereby winning a ticket to the quarterfinals.
In a match that only needed 1 point to advance, U.23 Indonesia played extremely well with a strong and effective attack. Goals from Witan Sulaeman (minute 23) and Marselino Ferdinan (minute 40) put coach Shin Tae-yong's team up 2-0 in the first half. Then in the second half, U.23 Indonesia played a reasonable counter-attack and continued to lead 3-0 after Marselino completed his double.

Although U.23 Jordan found a goal to reduce the score in the 79th minute with an own goal by Justin Hubner, U.23 Indonesia finally sealed a 4-1 victory thanks to Komang Teguh to win a ticket to the quarterfinals with 6 points after 3 matches.
President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir was very happy to help U.23 Indonesia reach the quarterfinals in their first time in the Asian big sea. He affirmed: "The performance and mentality of the players have improved after the loss to U.23 Qatar. Although in that match, we played excellently with only 9 players on the field. They did not give up under pressure.
Coach Shin Tae-yong has a reasonable strategy to awaken the collective strength. I hope the fans will continue to accompany U.23 Indonesia. This is the effort of the entire Indonesian football system. We have tried, and then received worthy results."
The opponent in the quarterfinals of U.23 Indonesia will be determined today (April 22), one of two names: U.23 Korea or U.23 Japan. Although having to face the "mountain of Asia" in the next round, PSSI President Erick Thohir still hopes that U.23 Indonesia will reach the semi-finals to continue competing for a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"The recent matches are proof that we can do it. I hope the players will continue to play bravely and resiliently in the quarter-finals, because U.23 Indonesia's opponents will be even stronger. We will aim for the goal of participating in the Olympics," said Mr. Thohir.
