Young people choose experiential travel

Not liking to sign up for tours, not liking to stay in high-end, expensive resorts and hotels, the travel trends of young people today have changed. They like to travel by motorbike, immerse themselves in the lives of local people, explore simple things in new lands and enjoy rustic dishes...

1/3 Joining fishermen in net removal is one of the interesting experiences for young people.

Wanting to see how fishermen live, Ho My Trang (Dong Nai) and her close friends went to a homestay located near the 7-Color Rock Beach - Co Thach Tourist Area - Lien Huong Commune, Lam Dong Province. At around 5 a.m., when many people were still sleeping, Trang's group of friends arrived at 7-Color Rock Beach. While walking barefoot on the pebble and sand beaches and watching the calm sea in the early morning like a lake, Trang and her friends were captivated.

When the sun began to rise, the fishing boats gradually came ashore after a night of fishing. Trang and her friends enjoyed pulling the fishing boats full of fish ashore and untangling the nets. Looking at the fresh fish and shrimps, still jumping and snapping, the group of friends were engrossed and asked the fishermen questions incessantly. While chatting, Trang was also shown how to untangling the nets so that the fish would not be scratched, the net would not be torn, and her hands would not be stabbed or bleeding. It seemed simple, but the fish and crabs that were still jumping and snapping were very difficult to untangle.

Trang shared: “My friends and I are all city dwellers, we rarely interact with fishermen, so when we get to experience simple activities like this at sea, we are very excited. Not only do we untangle the nets, we also get to pull the nets with the fishermen here, it is very fun. Perhaps this is the most interesting and meaningful experience we have had.” Trang likes to chat with locals to deeply feel the culture and pace of life at the destination.

Not only that, Trang's group of friends also had the homestay owner personally cook special dishes from the sunny and windy region with freshly harvested seafood such as: fish salad, fish cakes, shrimp and squid pancakes, grilled fish...

Besides visiting tourist attractions such as Co Thach Pagoda, Cat Bay Relic Site, Ong Nam Hai Tomb, Quat Gio Field... the locals guided Trang's group to Bai Tro area, a pristine destination, not known to many tourists. With a peaceful natural landscape, blue sea and a slow pace of fishing life, this place is suitable for those who want to experience nature and learn about coastal life. With just 3 days, Trang's group can discover many new things in the coastal area of Lien Huong commune, from culture, destinations and typical cuisine of the local people.

Not only experiencing “1 day as a fisherman”, young people are also very excited to experience “1 day as a farmer”. Lam Hoang Kha - Ho Chi Minh City, during a visit to the dragon fruit capital in Ham Kiem commune, was able to go to Mr. Nguyen Van Chin's dragon fruit garden to visit and learn about agriculture .

Kha said: “Here, the delegations had the opportunity to hear stories about the fate of farmers who know how to light off-season dragon fruit, how to prune the ears, harvest and process dragon fruit products. At the same time, I also had the opportunity to experience the taste of some dishes made from dragon fruit such as: king flower soup, stir-fried dragon fruit buds, dragon fruit flower tea... very interesting”. Not only that, Kha also got to harvest fruit from the branches with farmers and learn about the process of growing dragon fruit according to official and unofficial export standards.

Trips are also a way for young people to relieve stress and connect more with the community, through the colorful reality that they observe and reflect on. Abundant energy, a desire to learn and an understanding of technology are advantages that young people take advantage of to create personal journeys and understand themselves better. Through that, they will have the opportunity to learn more about the lifestyle, customs, and new indigenous cultures, expand their knowledge and enjoy life to the fullest.
