Amidst Malaysian football scandal, FIFA appoints VFF President to National Team Competition Committee

(NLDO) - FIFA has just sent a notice appointing VFF President, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan to the position of FIFA National Team Competition Committee.

On October 7, the World Football Federation (FIFA) officially announced the appointment of Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, member of the Standing Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), as a member of the FIFA National Team Competition Committee for the 2025-2029 term.

According to a document sent to VFF, FIFA said the appointment decision was approved by the FIFA Council at the meeting on October 2, and affirmed that it will support and create favorable conditions for Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan to complete his work well in his new position.

The FIFA National Team Competitions Committee is responsible for advising and consulting the FIFA Council in strategic planning, organizing and operating important international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, FIFA U-20 World Cup, FIFA U-17 World Cup and tournaments within the FIFA system.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan has just been appointed to the FIFA National Team Competition Committee.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan is currently holding many important positions in continental and regional football organizations, including: Member of the Standing Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Chairman of the Competition Committee of AFC and AFF, and Member of the AFC Asian Cup Organizing Committee for the 2023-2027 term. Most recently, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan was entrusted by AFC to hold the position of Head of the Executive Committee of the 2026 Asian Games men's football in Nagoya (Japan).

In addition to the decision to appoint Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan to participate in the FIFA National Team Competition Committee, VFF also has two other representatives appointed to participate in FIFA's professional committees, including Secretary General Nguyen Van Phu - FIFA Medical Committee and Deputy Secretary General Nguyen Thanh Ha - FIFA Women's Football Committee.

The fact that Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan and VFF representatives were trusted to hold roles in FIFA has continued to affirm the prestige and position of VFF as well as Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan personally in the international football system.

This is also an important milestone, contributing to enhancing the image of Vietnamese football in the international arena and creating more opportunities to contribute to the overall development of world football.
