According to OpenAI, GPT-4o mini outperforms industry-leading small AI models on text and vision tasks. As small AI models improve, they are becoming more popular with developers due to their speed and cost-effectiveness compared to larger models.

GPT-4o mini, known to be cheaper and faster than OpenAI's current state-of-the-art AI models, is being released to developers as well as via the ChatGPT web and mobile app for users.

OpenAI's new move will make its technology more accessible to customers, including those with limited resources.

The GPT- 4o mini will replace the GPT- 3.5 Turbo as the company's smallest model at 60% cheaper.

The company said its latest AI model scored 82% on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark. That score beats Google's Gemini Flash (77.9%) and Anthropic's Claude Haiku (73.8%).

Currently, GPT-4o mini supports text and image processing in the API. In addition, the model will also support video and audio processing in the future.
