Professor Vu Ha Van becomes a staff member of VinUni University

VinUni University has just announced its new leadership team, including Professor Vu Ha Van, who is the Scientific Director of VinUni Big Data Research Institute.

Recently, at the opening ceremony of the new school year, VinUni University announced the initial results of the VinUni 500 Campaign, an initiative to attract 500 global scholars. Professor Vu Ha Van's name was mentioned in the press release, when talking about the initial results of this campaign.

Specifically, in the 2025-2026 academic year, VinUni has gathered 100 global scientists , including 45 research lecturers, 15 scholars and 40 affiliated lecturers. After the opening ceremony, the school also announced the establishment of new centers of excellence and welcomed leading professors:

Professor Vu Ha Van, Professor of Yale University, USA, member of the University Council, Scientific Director of VinUni Big Data Research Institute; Professor Duong Nguyen Vu, Vice President in charge of postgraduate training, Scientific Director of the AI ​​Research Center; Professor Edmund J. Malesky, political economist of Duke University, USA, will establish and lead the Center for Smart Green Transformation; Professor Phan Manh Huong, physicist of the University of South Florida, USA, will establish and lead the Center for Materials Technology Innovation.

The new research centers will be planned according to interdisciplinary clusters on smart health, smart environment, artificial intelligence and big data. Here, R&D experts from the business ecosystem, especially from VinFast , Vinmec, VinRobotics, VinMotion… will coordinate with VinUni lecturers and students to build strong research groups, promote scientific publications, develop inventions, transfer technology and start-up innovation.

Professor Vu Ha Van, the most famous mathematician in the Vietnamese mathematics community today, is a professor at Yale University, USA, invited by Vingroup Corporation to be the Scientific Director of Vingroup Big Data Research Institute (VinBigdata), and the Scientific Director of Vingroup Innovation Fund (VinIF, part of VinBigdata).

According to Thanh Nien 's investigation , Vingroup has reorganized a number of research units. The application product development part of VinBigdata was merged into VinIT Information Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company.

The basic scientific research section (big data research) and community development section (VinIF Foundation) were separated and transferred to VinUni University. Professor Vu Ha Van is still the Scientific Director of VinIF Foundation and also takes on a new role at VinUni University.

The opening ceremony also marked VinUni's welcome of a new president, Professor Yap-Peng Tan, who was previously Acting President of the School of Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore; Professor Ling San, former Permanent Vice President and former President of NTU, now Permanent Vice President of the VinUni University Council.
