Hanoi receives over 1 million Euros in aid to improve public transport network

Hanoi has just received a technical assistance project with an aid of more than 1 million Euros to establish a multi-modal public transport network and improve passenger travel routes.

In Decision No. 580, Mr. Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that in order to enhance the attractiveness and establish a multi-modal public transport network, Hanoi has received the technical assistance project "Improving public transport in Hanoi" from the Ile-de-France Regional Council (France) and the French Development Agency (AFD).

The project implementation period is 1 year from the date of approval (in 2025 - 2026). The total project capital is 1.2 million Euro, equivalent to more than 33 billion VND.

The overall objective of the project is to enhance the attractiveness of public transport, supporting Hanoi City in establishing a multi-modal public transport network.

Hanoi Department of Transport is the unit directly organizing, managing and implementing necessary activities to research the project.

The project aims to improve “passenger journeys” through improvements to public transport stations; improved accessibility by all modes, especially walking to stations; and reorganisation of the existing bus network to complement general public transport.

The City People's Committee assigned the Hanoi Department of Transport to take full responsibility for receiving and implementing the aid in accordance with its assigned functions and tasks. Relevant departments, branches, sectors and units, according to their assigned functions and tasks, shall carry out the work.

According to the reporter's research, Hanoi currently has 154 bus routes. Of these, there are 132 subsidized routes, 8 non-subsidized routes, 12 adjacent routes and 2 City tour routes.

The bus network over the past 10 years has been regularly developed, expanded, improved, and rationalized to best meet the travel needs of passengers.
