On the morning of November 28, a clip appeared on social media recording a scene where a group of male students held down the arms and legs of another male student, then carried the male student to the flagpole in the middle of the schoolyard and repeatedly thrust his genitals into the pole.
Being pushed into a sensitive area, the male student painfully shriveled up, but could not resist because his hands and feet were controlled by the group of students.
An 8th grade male student was controlled by 5 classmates and had his private parts repeatedly pushed into the flagpole (Photo cut from clip).
The scene around the school yard at that time was like recess. There were many students surrounding but no one stopped this behavior, even supported the group of students who were causing school violence against their friends.
Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Doan Vu Hai - Principal of Hoa Nam Secondary School, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi - confirmed the incident that happened at the school on November 8.
However, it was not until November 24 that the school learned about the incident from the parents. The parents of the abused male student found the clip on their son’s phone and sent it to the homeroom teacher.
Immediately after receiving the complaint, the school summoned all related students to investigate the incident, then transferred it to Hoa Nam commune police.
On November 25, Hoa Nam Secondary School established a disciplinary council and suspended 6 students (5 8th graders who directly participated and 1 7th grader who filmed the clip) from school for 1-2 weeks. The disciplinary action will begin on November 27.
The male student who was abused in the clip was taken to the doctor on the evening of November 24. The examination showed no injuries. The student’s family agreed with the school’s solution.
Although the images in the clip have angered viewers, Mr. Doan Vu Hai said that this group of students played together. There was no sign that the male student, whose private part was pushed against the flagpole, had a conflict with the other students.
During the incident report, the students all said "it was just a joke".
"Although the students said it was a joke, the school still confirmed that the behavior in the clip was a violation of another person's body and will impose disciplinary action according to regulations. The school hopes that the students will realize the limits of joking and need to respect other people's bodies as their own," Mr. Doan Vu Hai shared.
Mr. Doan Vu Hai expressed regret that the incident was beyond his control, and pledged to strengthen management and moral and legal education for all students in the school. The school will also closely monitor the relationships of this group of students to promptly detect and prevent any conflicts that may arise.
"During puberty, 8th graders experience emotional, psychological, and behavioral outbursts. They are not yet aware of the consequences of their impulsive and ignorant actions. As a result, they engage in substandard behavior, even violent behavior, causing harm to their friends and those around them.
On the school side, I hope that families and parents will actively cooperate with the school in caring for and educating children, not only in terms of studying but also in terms of psychology and emotions, promptly recognizing emotional and behavioral instability to support and guide them in resolving adolescent conflicts.
This is the root to prevent and combat school violence," Mr. Doan Vu Hai explained.
