Golden-cheeked gibbons are cared for and raised at Cu Chi Forest Ranger Station.
On September 4, information from the Cu Chi Forest Protection Department under the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said that the unit had received, cared for, raised and released into the wild a yellow-cheeked gibbon voluntarily transferred by Mr. NMT (residing in Cu Chi commune).
The yellow-cheeked gibbon weighs about 3kg, scientific name is Nomascus gabriellae , belongs to group IB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare species according to Circular No. 27/2025 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .
According to Mr. NMT, the above gibbon was given to him by a friend when it was still young. At that time, the gibbon had black fur. After growing up, its fur turned yellow like it is now.
Recently, through newspapers and social networks, Mr. NMT became aware of the legal regulations on protecting endangered, precious, and rare wild animals, so he proactively contacted local authorities and forest rangers to hand over the gibbon and release it back into the natural environment according to the law.
According to Cu Chi Forest Ranger Department, about two weeks ago, a family member across from Mr. NMT's house also voluntarily handed over a yellow-cheeked gibbon to the unit for care, raising and release into the wild.
