The South China Morning Post (SCMP) cited documents from Goertek on January 15, saying that the company will invest up to 280 million USD to establish a subsidiary in Vietnam, to meet the needs for "business expansion and long-term operations". According to the documents submitted to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (Guangdong province, China), Goertek's Vietnam branch will produce consumer electronics such as AirPods, smart watches, virtual reality devices and augmented reality devices. This project will simultaneously meet Goertek's future development plans, as well as customer needs. "The project has the advantage of utilizing local human resources in Vietnam to enhance the company's overall competitiveness," SCMP quoted Goertek's announcement. Goertek is one of Apple’s largest suppliers in China for its Vision Pro virtual reality glasses, which are expected to launch in 2024. According to SCMP , this is Goertek’s latest move as Apple is shifting more of its production out of China. Apple has encouraged its manufacturing partners to diversify operations to other countries, including Vietnam, to reduce their dependence on Beijing. Over the past 10 years, the number of companies manufacturing Apple products in Vietnam has quadrupled.
