TPO - At the foot of Dun Mountain (Nam Dan District, Nghe An ), wrestlers with their martial spirit brought the audience dramatic and exciting moments.

The Mai King Temple Festival in Nam Dan District, Nghe An Province takes place on February 22-24 (January 13-15) on a provincial scale, with the wrestling festival being an important highlight, always attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate and cheer.

The wrestling tournament takes place at the foot of Dun Mountain, in the Mausoleum of King Mai. The participants are healthy young men who love wrestling and usually have not attended any professional training school.

Players compete in a martial spirit, there is no dress code, opponents in a match are distinguished by red and blue cloth strips. Hundreds of wrestlers from inside and outside the province have come to Nam Dan district to compete in the weight categories of 50-55 kg, 60-65 kg and over 70 kg.

To win, requires wrestlers not only to have good health and skillful techniques but also to have strategy and composure.

According to the rules, in a match, the wrestler who knocks the opponent down and makes their back touch the ring will win. Each match lasts about 3-5 minutes, with many evenly matched pairs lasting more than 10 minutes.

The wrestling ring attracted a large crowd of locals and tourists to cheer, causing the entrances to the ring to be jammed. Many young people risked their lives by climbing up a 3 meter high structure not far from the ring to watch and cheer.

A wrestler must constantly replenish his energy with mineral water.

When a wrestler wins, the organizers will give him a shirt. Many people are also given money by the audience if they compete enthusiastically, dedicate themselves, and have exciting fights.

According to legend, in ancient times, at the beginning of Spring, King Mai Hac De (670 - 723) often organized wrestling competitions to select strong, talented young men to add to the army.

Mai Hac De, real name Mai Thuc Loan, was originally from Mai Phu commune, Loc Ha district ( Ha Tinh ). Orphaned at a young age, Mai Thuc Loan grew up to be more intelligent and strong, a famous wrestler in Sa Nam region (present-day Nam Dan district, Nghe An).

The tomb and temple of Mai Hac De in Nam Dan town, Con De. The burial place of the king's mother and the temple of Mai Thanh Mau located on Con Chen in Nam Thai commune are both part of the Mai Hac De relic complex, which has been ranked as a national historical and cultural relic since 1996.
