Here, Professor Lauren Ball, Australian Academy of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Pui Ting Wong, specializing in culinary education at the University of Queensland, along with nutritionist Emily Burch, lecturer at Southern Cross University (Australia), share some things you need to keep in mind when consuming instant noodles and good tips to turn your bowl of noodles into a healthier meal, according to the medical news site Medical Express.

A packet of noodles usually consists of noodles made from refined wheat flour and a seasoning packet, and may contain some dried vegetables or fried onions. However, instant noodles are often high in salt, low in fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals.

How to consume instant noodles to ensure health?

A Korean study found that instant noodle consumption does not directly cause health problems if eaten at a level of twice a week. However, if eaten regularly every day - instead of rice - it can affect health over time, such as being linked to a higher risk of metabolic syndrome.

Experts say there is no need to eliminate instant noodles from the menu, just apply some of the following simple tips, according to Medical Express.

Add vegetables like peas, broccoli, carrots, spinach, bean sprouts, and chives to increase fiber and vitamins.

Adding protein , such as hard-boiled eggs, fried eggs, tofu, or lean meats like chicken, will help keep you fuller longer and support your muscles.

Reduce the seasoning packet - this is the main source of salt. You can use half a packet or less, or you can use homemade broth with less salt, adding green onions, herbs or chili.

Try using whole wheat noodles (brown rice noodles…) to increase fiber intake and improve nutritional value.

Ultimately, experts conclude: Instant noodles can fit into a healthy diet, but should not be a staple every day.

Instant noodles are definitely a necessity for our busy and varied lifestyle. With just a few readily available ingredients and a few small changes, you can have a satisfying meal while adding more nutrients.
