On September 20, Thanh Nhan Hospital ( Hanoi ) announced that the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department 2 had just performed a cesarean section on a very rare case of a newborn baby being born still in the amniotic sac.

Accordingly, the pregnant woman TNH was advised by the doctors to have a second proactive cesarean section when she was 38 weeks and 5 days pregnant. The surgery was successful, the baby weighed 3.4 kg, cried loudly, was rosy, and full of life right after birth.

According to doctors, in medical literature, this phenomenon is called "birth en caul", or commonly known as "birth in a caul sac", and only appears in about 1/80,000 - 1/100,000 births.

When the baby is born, it is still in the amniotic sac, meaning the amniotic sac has not yet ruptured. The amniotic fluid and amniotic membrane continue to protect the baby, maintain stable pressure, and protect the baby from infection and mechanical trauma in the last moments of pregnancy.

This is considered a symbol of luck and peace, a miracle that even experienced doctors rarely witness.

The doctor said that in the above case, a second elective cesarean section is a safe medical option, especially for women who have had a previous cesarean section, to reduce the risk of uterine rupture or complications during natural labor.
