In recent days, the image of Mr. Hoang Van Viet, Principal of Quang Vinh Primary School (Quang Vinh Commune, Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province) swimming into the flooded school has attracted the attention of the community . Mr. Viet's action took place in the context of Cao Bang Province in general and Quang Vinh Commune in particular experiencing a historic flood, many houses are flooded to the roof, schools and medical stations are also in the same situation.

On the morning of August 29, speaking to VietNamNet , Mr. Hoang Van Viet said: “When I visited the school on August 24, the school was flooded, causing about 1.5 meters of water. The scene before my eyes was the school's physical system submerged in a vast sea of ​​water. Among them, more than a ton of rice was submerged and nothing could be done.”

According to Mr. Viet, from the 24th until now, he and the teachers have continuously visited the school to grasp the situation. On August 26th alone, the school recorded a peak flood level of 3.5m.

Born and raised in Trung Khanh district, Mr. Viet has nearly 30 years of teaching and working in his hometown.

“I grew up and devoted myself to my homeland, so I understand the hardships of teachers and students in the highlands. I understand the flood situation, so when the water rose, I traveled 40km to check on the situation at the school and classrooms. Seeing that the school campus was a sea of ​​water, I decided to swim in to check. I was really worried at that time,” Mr. Viet recalled.

Ms. Chu Thi Vinh, Vice Chairwoman of Trung Khanh District People's Committee, said: "By this morning (August 29), Quang Vinh Primary School's water had receded, and teachers could walk into the school. The authorities are currently assessing the damage, and at the same time, the district is increasing its forces to help the school quickly stabilize its facilities in time for the new school year opening ceremony."
