Forming appropriate attitudes for learners

In the 2025-2026 school year, the education and training sector will focus on school counseling and social work to help students study better as well as prevent school violence and negative impacts from society.

The requirement for educational institutions is to strengthen coordination between schools, families, and society to improve learners' personality and appropriate behavior.

Proactively capture learner information

The incident of a 7th grade student in Hanoi misbehaving with his homeroom teacher is a warning bell about the awareness and ethics of students. In reality, there are many different causes of school violence or students' poor academic performance, so educational institutions need to be more proactive in coordinating with families and society to grasp information and take appropriate preventive and educational measures.

Nguyen Danh Bac, Principal of Bac Ninh Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, shared that today's high school students basically have a sense of discipline in studying and social relationships. However, there are still some students whose thoughts and behaviors are not up to standard because their families and schools do not pay close attention, so they do not understand their thoughts and feelings. Notably, many students have difficult family circumstances, their parents are divorced, and they are under pressure to study but are not shared, encouraged, and supported in a timely manner, often leading to the risk of losing control of their behavior and conduct.

Therefore, as soon as the new school year began, schools instructed the school counseling department as well as homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and the Youth Union to organize many activities to grasp information and have measures to educate students. These included requiring students to write a commitment not to violate school rules and laws; inviting the police to disseminate and propagate the prevention of school violence and cybercrime; and organizing dialogues between school leaders and students to listen to their thoughts and aspirations.

According to Vice Principal of Phuong Nam Secondary School (Quang Ninh Province) Nguyen Thi Huong, most of the school's students have parents working in industrial zones, and have little time to care for and educate their children. Therefore, many students are negligent in their studies, have poor discipline... which is one of the difficulties that the school needs to coordinate with parents to overcome in the coming time.

In order to raise awareness, morality and responsibility of students, in recent times, A Phu Ly High School (Ninh Binh province) has prioritized ideological, moral and lifestyle education for students through core subjects and extracurricular activities. The school regularly maintains contact with students' families, coordinates with organizations and individuals inside and outside the school to educate students on morality and lifestyle. Every month, homeroom teachers classify students, thereby limiting many violations of rules and regulations.

Along with promoting the effectiveness of the school counseling room, in recent times, Nguyen Hue A High School (Ninh Binh province) has determined to take students as the center, building a green, clean, beautiful, safe, happy and cultural school. Teacher Doan Thi Kim Dung, Principal of the school, said that students' awareness is formed through practical and appropriate activities. Every week, students work to clean up, helping to keep the school campus clean. For many years, the school has done a good job of "Say no to school violence"; resolutely and strictly handling students who quarrel and fight. Notably, thanks to studying according to the club model, students have the opportunity to experience and practice in the aspects of morality, intelligence, physical fitness and aesthetics. Typically, the volunteer club has nurtured students with good qualities, especially compassion, caring, helping, and empathy with those around them...

Diversity of education forms

According to Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Binh province Nguyen Tien Dung, in order to form awareness and ethics for students, the local education sector always pays attention to skills education, social work, and psychological counseling. This school year, the Department has organized training and professional development on social work and psychological counseling for staff and teachers in charge of school counseling and school social work. In particular, the focus is on building positive relationships between teachers and students, towards a happy school model. At the same time, strengthen the management of life skills education activities and extracurricular activities through subjects and educational activities; organize diverse models of clubs in schools.

Sharing this view, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that educational institutions need to do a better job of educating behavioral skills and solving practical situations appropriate to students' ages. Pay attention to educating self-protection skills, skills to prevent school violence, accidents, and drowning; skills to participate in safe traffic and behave civilly in the community and on the internet; focus on supporting vulnerable groups of students and those in difficult circumstances. Units need to organize well, consider school psychological counseling as an important and regular task to ensure mental health, behavioral and emotional orientation for students. At the same time, replicate the model of school psychological counseling rooms, diversify forms of education; mobilize the participation of psychological experts and social organizations to improve the capacity to identify and support psychological problems and school psychological crises.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the Ministry has issued documents guiding and directing the work of skills education; social work and school psychological counseling. However, the content of skills education at educational institutions is still scattered, monotonous in form, students lack life skills, digital skills, and are easily affected by harmful information on the internet environment. The implementation of social work and psychological counseling in many localities is still confusing, lacking resources, and counseling content is not suitable to the needs of learners... Therefore, this school year, educational institutions need to do a good job of school counseling and social work in an appropriate form. In addition, educational institutions are responsible for establishing a system for receiving and exchanging information; coordinating with families, society, and relevant agencies to promptly receive information about situations and risks of difficulties in learning, psychology, social relationships, or other difficulties of learners...
