Coach Allardyce leaves Leeds after unsuccessful mission to save Premier League survival

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên02/06/2023

Allardyce, 68, could not save Leeds from relegation from the Premier League after being appointed with just four games remaining in the 2022-23 season.

A Leeds statement read: "Leeds United and Sam Allardyce can confirm that both parties have mutually agreed for Sam's term at the club to end at the end of the 2022-23 season. Sam joined the Whites for the final four games of the season and despite spirited performances against Man City and Newcastle United, the objective of remaining in the Premier League was not achieved."

Leeds failed in their bid to stay in the league.

The former Newcastle and West Ham boss has left Leeds after 25 days in charge following talks with chief executive Angus Kinnear. The Elland Road club have confirmed Big Sam's fate after Leeds have only picked up one point in four games under the manager. An announcement on the new Leeds United manager will be made in the coming weeks.

A 4-1 home defeat to Tottenham last weekend left Leeds five points adrift of the relegation zone, while rivals Everton, who survived relegation, and Leicester (who were also relegated along with Leeds and Southampton) all won.

Leeds fans' disappointment

Allardyce previously worked wonders to keep Bolton and Sunderland from relegation from the Premier League, and Leeds were hoping he could do the same again. This season, Leeds sacked manager Jesse Marsch at the end of February and caretaker manager Javi Gracia at the start of May.
