New phase for Western businesses

Recently, the Vietnamese rice industry received good news when 500 tons of Japonica rice branded “Low-emission Vietnamese Green Rice” appeared in the Japanese market for the first time. The batch of rice was exported by Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company and had the cooperation of MURASE Group (Japan). This is considered an important turning point for the agricultural industry, an impressive step forward in rice production of the enterprise in the “land of nine dragons”.

Recognizing the efforts of farmers, cooperatives, businesses and agricultural officials, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam believes that the change in thinking in sustainable rice production will increase a lot of value. The export of the first batch of Vietnam's low-emission rice to Japanese consumers is of great significance, opening up a long-term direction for Vietnamese rice businesses, an opportunity for the Mekong Delta to orient rice production methods to a new stage, overcoming the problem of good harvests and low prices, creating quality rice and rice brands.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Deputy General Director of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company Pham Thai Binh informed: The first batch of emission-reducing rice was exported to Japan at a price of 820 USD/ton while other markets only fluctuated from 650-700 USD/ton. This is a good price, helping farmers and businesses have the motivation to continue pursuing high-quality, emission-reducing rice cultivation methods.

Mr. Binh said: Low-emission rice in Vietnam alone is not enough to meet the needs of the world market. In the Japanese market, the room for Vietnamese rice to be exported is very open. According to Mr. Binh, to be able to export this batch of rice, businesses and farmers have cultivated according to the process of the One Million Hectare High-Quality Rice Project. The low-emission factor is only one of the 600 active ingredients that Japan requires. If it enters the Japanese market, it will be easy to export to other countries.

With this in mind, from 2020 to now, Trung An Company has cooperated with MURASE Group to grow high-quality rice that meets Japanese standards. In the period of 2024-2025, the two sides will continue to upgrade their cooperation and cultivate according to the criteria of the One Million Hectare High-Quality Rice Project with the aim of both improving rice quality and ensuring environmental friendliness. This is the roadmap and solid steps of the enterprise, creating momentum for development in the new stage of the private economy in the West.
