In just 2 years, Huynh Tran Y Nhi (Miss World Vietnam 2023) and Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi (Miss Grand Vietnam 2025) - were involved in scandals related to statements that were heavily criticized on social networks. These incidents not only shook their personal images but also raised questions about whether the selection of beauties to represent Vietnamese women's beauty is too lenient.
Y Nhi: A series of bad mouths and the anti-fan storm
Less than a week after being crowned Miss World Vietnam 2023, Ý Nhi - a 21-year-old girl from Bình Định - became the focus of criticism with a series of immature statements in interviews. Her innocent words were quickly dissected on social media, leading to the formation of large anti-fan groups.

In a press interview after her coronation, when the MC asked her to name three famous people from Binh Dinh, Y Nhi answered by putting her name first, followed by Han Mac Tu (who was actually born in Quang Binh but grew up in Binh Dinh) and King Quang Trung. Her statement was "dissected" by netizens for having incorrect historical knowledge and lacking respect, showing arrogance in "putting herself on the same level" as famous people.
One of the most shocking statements was when Ý Nhi compared herself to her friends: "While my peers only spend time sleeping, playing, and drinking milk tea, I participated in beauty pageants. I think I'm more mature than you guys." This statement was considered to be lacking in modesty and delusional about titles. Another statement about her boyfriend also caused controversy: "Surely my boyfriend must also have rapid changes and progress to be able to keep up with me." Many viewers believe that this is an excessive demand, causing Ý Nhi to be accused of having star disease.
Not stopping there, Ý Nhi also commented on the sensitive topic of a beautiful woman falling in love with a rich man by agreeing with the saying "the wind meets the clouds" and defended her crowning position by arguing that the judges had comprehensively evaluated her level, ethics, and behavior. These words, although stemming from a lack of experience after a busy schedule, sparked a wave of boycott.
After only a few days, anti-Miss Ý Nhi groups on Facebook attracted hundreds of thousands of members, along with calls to strip her of her crown and international competition spot.
Under pressure, Ý Nhi burst into tears during a livestream to apologize, admitting that she was not mature enough and lacked experience when having to conduct many consecutive interviews and announce her departure to study abroad.
Yen Nhi: Suspected of foreign language and careless statements
"History" seems to repeat itself with Yen Nhi - a 21-year-old beauty queen from Dak Lak , crowned Miss Grand Vietnam 2025 on September 14. With only 2 weeks of preparation, Yen Nhi set off to compete at Miss Grand International 2025 in Thailand but quickly got caught up in a scandal related to her English ability and unprofessional statements.

During the interview on October 3, when the contest chairman Nawat Itsaragrisil asked about her personal interests, Yen Nhi was confused, had to ask for support from other contestants and answered in a way that made her foreign language ability suspected to be worse than her domestic performance. That same evening, during the behind-the-scenes livestream, she admitted that she did not prepare in advance because she did not know the nature of the contest and claimed to be the youngest contestant. These words were considered tactless, showing a lack of seriousness in the international arena.
The climax was the viral clip on the morning of October 5, recording Yen Nhi's private call that was leaked into her roommate's livestream (a Tanzanian beauty). In it, she complained: "People cursed and cursed. Now everything I do is cursed... From now on, I won't livestream anymore, it's best to stay silent. Livestreaming is something for them to cut and curse."
The phrase "they" referring to the audience angered public opinion. In addition, Yen Nhi was also accused of blaming the management company for lack of investment. In Yen Nhi's statement, the audience realized that she also used profanity - something unacceptable for a representative of a country's beauty.
Some opinions say that with poor results in the sub-rounds (not making it into the top 15 talents), plus the recent noise, Yen Nhi will find it difficult to save herself with results because this scandal will affect Vietnam's reputation in the international arena.
Although social media may have turned the two girls' mistakes into a major crisis, the two incidents also highlight the need for specialized training to raise awareness about communication, behavior, and image management for beauty queens.
