This is a successful continuation of the campaign to reduce and say no to plastic bags, say no to plastic straws and reduce plastic waste in Cu Lao Cham (Tan Hiep commune).

According to the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Marine Reserve, currently some companies and businesses transporting tourists on the Cua Dai - Cu Lao Cham route are still using plastic bags to wrap bottles of purified water given to tourists during their visit.

Some tourists bring personal belongings, especially children's belongings, wrapped in plastic bags and put them in backpacks or handbags (uncontrollable). When visiting, they take them out to use and leave them on the island or throw them into the sea.

Faced with that reality, Hoi An City People's Committee assigned the Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area Management Board to carry out the campaign "Tourists and fishermen bring waste ashore", calling on people of Tan Hiep island commune, fishermen, companies and businesses operating passenger transport on the Cua Dai - Cu Lao Cham route and tourists to "bring waste ashore".

It is known that in 2024, the core zone of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve will welcome more than 217,000 visitors who buy entrance and resort fees, an increase of 13.66% compared to 2023 (of which international visitors will be more than 63,000, an increase of more than 36%).
