The presence of all delegates today affirms the common interest and determination to jointly promote the sustainable development of non-timber forest products.
Lang Son has 602,24 thousand hectares of land planned for forestry, of which (special-use forest land is 13,08 thousand hectares, protective forest land is 99,60 thousand hectares and production forest land is 489,56 thousand hectares) . Therefore, forestry development plays a very important role in the socio-economic development of the province, with land and climate potential very suitable for forestry production activities. In recent years, under the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, and the support of the Central Government, the provincial agricultural sector has achieved positive results: Annually, over 9,000 hectares of forest are planted, forming concentrated production material areas such as: Star Anise area 46,167.84 hectares, Pine area 138,542.48 hectares, Acacia area 55,945.67 hectares, Eucalyptus area 29,894.02 hectares, Cinnamon area 10,754.26 hectares; planted forest productivity is increasingly improved; forest certification has reached nearly 17,000 hectares; Pine resin exploitation reached 201,107.32 tons; Star Anise 55,189.05 tons, Cinnamon Bark 5,051.6 tons;... basic forest resources are well managed and protected; forest cover increases annually; The growth rate of the forestry sector is estimated at about 5.0 - 6.0%; the annual production value of the forestry sector is estimated at over 4,000 billion VND. The living standards of people working in the forestry sector have improved, and many households have become rich from the forest.
Comrade Dinh Thi Thu - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province spoke at the Conference
In order to promote the potential and strengths in the forestry sector, in recent years, Lang Son province has carried out many scientific and technological projects related to the forestry sector, focusing on research, selection, crossbreeding and importing a number of varieties with high productivity, quality and economic efficiency to promote economic restructuring; research on production, preservation, processing of forest products, biodiversity conservation in the province; transfer of technological processes, silvicultural processes for local application... Based on the research results, specialized agencies in the province have transferred them to farmers for application. Some forestry and fruit tree species with strengths in the province such as Star Anise, Canarium, medicinal herbs (Acanthopanax trifolia, Codonopsis pilosula, Red Polygonum multiflorum, White Polygonum multiflorum...) have been built and recognized for geographical indications and collective trademarks.
With such potential and strengths, however, the development of non-timber forest products, specifically the development of medicinal herbs under the forest canopy, still has limitations: There are no standards and technical processes for non-timber forest products issued, production is still small and fragmented, the collection, preservation and processing of non-timber forest products are mainly manual, especially the issue of consumption is still completely dependent on the market,....
Experts introduce and provide technical guidance on developing multi-value non-timber forest product models
This conference is an important milestone, an opportunity for Lang Son province to listen to the instructions and technical guidance from the Central Government, learn from the experiences of experts and scientists and together solve difficulties and problems. This is a forum to connect managers, scientists, businesses and people, aiming to build sustainable value chains, increase income for people in mountainous areas and protect forest resources.
