Support for women in difficulty

With many meaningful and practical activities, the Women's Union of Xuan Lu village (Que Son Trung commune) has become a bright spot in supporting women and children in difficult circumstances.

Nguyen Tuong Vy (8th grade student, Que My 2 Secondary School) currently lives with her mother and younger sister at her grandmother's house. Her family is poor, her mother is often sick, and her job is unstable.

Understanding that situation, the Women's Union of Xuan Lu village sponsored Vy with a support of 200,000 VND/month and mobilized benefactors to donate a savings book worth 1 million VND.

“I am very grateful for the help from the Women's Union and promise to try my best to study well so as not to let everyone down,” Vy shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhan, Head of the Women's Union of Xuan Lu village, said that the union always pays attention to activities to support women.

Since the beginning of the year, the association has mobilized many kind individuals to donate 30 gifts to disadvantaged women and 14 gifts to children of women who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies, totaling 13.4 million VND.

Calling on members to support Ms. Nguyen Thi Dao, Tran Thi Lan, Ha Thi Anh Dao with serious illness with the amount of 9.1 million VND.

Organized a free haircut program at home for 7 elderly people with difficulty walking. Gave 105 chickens to 25 women with the amount of 4.5 million VND.

In particular, the association mobilized two kind-hearted individuals, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam and Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Thuy, to support monthly expenses for two cases with especially difficult circumstances, Ms. Phan Thi Xuan 3 million VND/month and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuan 300,000 VND/month.

In addition, the Women's Union of Xuan Lu village also implemented the "Saving Garbage Bags" model in 5/5 women's groups, attracting a large number of women to participate. Accordingly, every day, women members sort waste at home, collect scrap metal, and at the end of the month contribute to the union to sell to raise funds to support the livelihoods of the poor.

“After 5 years of implementing this model, the women’s groups have collected more than 50 million VND. From this amount, 3 sewing machines, 3 sugarcane juice carts and more than 400 chickens have been given to women in need,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhan.

Along with humanitarian activities, the Xuan Lu Women's Union also does a good job of supporting preferential loans for members. Up to now, 57 women have accessed capital from the Social Policy Bank with a total outstanding loan of more than 3.4 billion VND.

Thanks to that, many households have boldly invested in developing livestock, planting forests, expanding production and business to improve their lives. Currently, Xuan Lu village has only 2 near-poor households and no poor households in the poverty reduction category.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Que Son Trung Commune, said: "The humanitarian and charitable activities of the Women's Union of Xuan Lu Village have spread widely and brought about practical results. Thereby, contributing to ensuring social security in the area, while affirming the role of the Women's Union in community life."
