Citing the content of the research project, Dr. Satu Limaye said: US-Vietnam relations have developed significantly over the past three decades, marked by expanding economic ties, strong security cooperation, and common regional goals. The United States is one of Vietnam's largest trading partners. Both countries have benefited from increased trade and investment, especially in the high-tech sector. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1995, developed into a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013, and upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. The upgrade of relations shows a deeper level of cooperation in diplomacy, trade, economics, defense and security, regional stability, as well as science, technology, and innovation.

In addition to these areas, the United States and Vietnam will work together to address common challenges such as disaster relief, health care, and war legacy efforts. In addition, academic exchanges, cooperation, and cultural engagement continue to strengthen people-to-people ties. More than 30,000 Vietnamese students are expected to study at U.S. educational institutions in the 2023-2024 school year, and 135,000 Vietnamese will visit the United States in 2024, contributing $1.7 billion to the U.S. economy. Nearly 780,000 Americans will visit Vietnam in 2024.

Dr. Satu Limaye said that through their partnership in many fields, the United States and Vietnam not only contribute to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region, but also promote a future of shared growth and prosperity.

“By strengthening the ties between the people of the United States – the world’s largest economy – and Vietnam, with its large young population and rapidly growing middle class in a region expected to drive global growth in the coming decade, the US-Vietnam relationship is expected to promote shared prosperity, security, safety and stability for decades to come,” Dr. Satu Limaye affirmed.

Assessing 30 years of Vietnam-US relations, Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Vietnam-US Association, emphasized that after 30 years of efforts, Vietnam and the United States have created a solid foundation to further strengthen bilateral relations in the future, bringing mutual benefits to both sides.

Affirming that the two economies of Vietnam and the US are complementary to each other. Vietnam exports to the US goods that the US cannot produce and vice versa, Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh said that in recent years, the economic reform process has helped Vietnam integrate into the global supply chain, and Vietnamese products must be highly competitive to enter the US market. Vietnam also creates a friendly environment for businesses, so more and more US businesses are coming to Vietnam to invest.

According to Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, the two countries still have a lot of room to further strengthen cooperation, exploring new fields such as science and technology, especially semiconductor chips, quantum, satellites and space, energy, unmanned devices...

For Mr. James Carouso - Senior Advisor of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, people's diplomacy plays a very important role in promoting Vietnam-US relations, in which resolving the consequences of war has created an important driving force for the relationship between the two countries. According to Mr. James Carouso, in the current period, when young Americans do not understand much about the war, Vietnam also needs to build an image associated with other unique points such as tourism or education, strengthening relations and interactions between the people of the two countries.

At the workshop, delegates discussed and listened to domestic and international experts and scholars present reports assessing the Vietnam-US relationship in the fields of politics-diplomacy, economics-trade, national defense-security, overcoming the consequences of war, science-technology, culture, education, people-to-people exchange...; at the same time, assessed the prospects of Vietnam-US cooperation, analyzed the opportunities and challenges affecting the prospects of cooperation between the two countries.
