
Overview of the workshop
Attending the workshop were representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology and Entomology, and leading lecturers and experts in parasitology. Trainees were medical staff from the Lao Cai Provincial Center for Disease Control, Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 and No. 2, Bao Yen Regional General Hospital, health centers in Bao Yen, Luc Yen, Tran Yen, Van Yen, Yen Binh areas, and health stations in communes with cases or located in high-risk areas.

At the workshop, lecturers from the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology and WHO introduced an overview of the situation of dragon worm disease in the world and in Vietnam, provided guidance on epidemiological surveillance skills, investigation of suspected cases, sampling, outbreak handling and communication organization in the community to proactively detect early and prevent the risk of disease invasion. In addition, students also discussed and shared practical experiences in monitoring, reporting and investigating cases at the grassroots level, thereby helping students consolidate their knowledge and practical skills.

Through the workshop, medical staff at all levels were updated with knowledge and improved their professional capacity in the prevention and control of dragon worm disease. This is also a practical activity contributing to the sustainable maintenance of the results of dragon worm disease eradication in Vietnam, protecting people's health and ensuring epidemic safety in Lao Cai province.
