Enjoy the "sweet fruit" of participating in voluntary social insurance

They hope that when they reach retirement age, they will have a stable pension to support their lives, and be at ease without having to depend on their children or society.

Leaving their hometown Nghe An, in 1989, Mr. Vo Van Long and Mrs. Phan Thi Tuc went to the mountainous district of Song Hinh to work as workers at Ea Ba Farm (now Ea Ba Coffee Company Limited in Ea Ba Commune) and started participating in compulsory social insurance from here. However, after 3 years of settling down and starting a business, the economy was difficult, so Mr. Long quit his job and decided to withdraw his social insurance at once to cover his family's living expenses.

In 2014, Mr. Long joined the commune's police force and received partial support for voluntary social insurance contributions. In January 2019, he resigned and continued to spend more than 600,000 VND/month to maintain his voluntary social insurance participation. In early October 2024, Mr. Long turned 61 and had paid voluntary social insurance for 10 years and 9 months. After listening to advice from Song Hinh Social Insurance officers, in his case, he could pay at once for the remaining years, Mr. Long decided to pay at once for the remaining 9 years and 3 months to receive his pension at this time. He is also the first person in the area managed by Song Hinh Social Insurance to have the longest continuous period of voluntary social insurance contributions to receive his pension.

Mr. Long shared: “When I knew I was eligible to continue paying voluntary social insurance for 20 years and receive pension right after the month of full payment, I decided to withdraw my savings to continue paying for the remaining 111 months and receive a pension decision from November 2024. I have a monthly pension, a free health insurance card, and when I die, I will receive a death benefit, so I consider this voluntary social insurance book as my retirement savings.”

Not only Mr. Long enjoys the "sweet fruit", but according to statistics from Song Hinh Social Insurance, there are currently over 2,000 people participating in voluntary social insurance and 31 people have received monthly pensions thanks to participating in voluntary social insurance for the required period of time. This shows that the social insurance policy has really entered life, has been positively received by the people and is increasingly playing a pivotal role in the social security system.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Binh, Director of Song Hinh Social Insurance, before the voluntary social insurance policy was in place, many freelance workers wanted to receive pensions but could not do so. Therefore, they thought that pensions were something very far away, only state officials or those working in enterprises could receive them. However, with the attention of the Party and the State for the goal of taking care of social security for the people, the voluntary social insurance policy has opened up opportunities for everyone, whether they are farmers, forestry workers, fishers, salt workers or freelance traders, to participate in social insurance, accumulate enough time to pay according to regulations, and when they reach retirement age, they will receive monthly pensions to take care of their lives.

According to Mr. Binh, to have that many people participating in voluntary social insurance, Song Hinh district Social Insurance has made efforts in communication work to spread the policy to the people in many creative and flexible ways. “We organized many consultation and dialogue conferences to communicate the voluntary social insurance policy to the people. From the conferences in the villages and hamlets, many people have realized the humanity, practicality and significance of the voluntary social insurance policy, so they enthusiastically participated right at the conference, but some people also had to be approached, consulted and persuaded many times to participate. For the propagandists of the social insurance sector, each time they go to the grassroots and persuade one person to participate is a great joy,” Mr. Binh added.

Participating in voluntary social insurance is not only the right decision for the present but also a solid foundation for the future. Voluntary social insurance is truly the “golden key” for all people to confidently enter old age with the “sweet fruits” of their efforts and savings.
