On January 20, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital announced that it had just received the results of blood and urine tests of two children being treated after eating spicy chips and noodles.

After being hospitalized, the two children were treated with acute poisoning treatment regimen.

Specifically, the test results did not detect any toxic substances of rat poison in the children's bodies; the test was positive for morphine but was meaningless because before taking the samples, the children had been given morphine by the doctor.

Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital has taken samples a second time and is continuing to send them for testing to find out the cause of the two children's critical condition after eating spicy chips and noodles.

Up to now, the health of both children has improved well. In particular, CVT (10 years old, living in Bich Phuong village, Xuan Sinh commune, Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa) has woken up after 6 days in a coma, stopped dialysis and was taken off the ventilator.

As for D.TC (4 years old, living in Bich Phuong village, Xuan Sinh commune), he is not yet awake, but when asked, he is responsive and is having to continue dialysis.

Before that, at around 4pm on January 14, two children CVT and D.TC and two other children (all living in Bich Phuong village) bought a pack of potato chips and a pack of spicy "waterspout" noodles at a grocery store in Bich Phuong village and shared them. After eating, two children T and C had convulsions so their families took them to the emergency room.

When arriving at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, both children were in a coma, with pale skin, weak breathing, irregular heartbeat, and low and fluctuating blood pressure.

After examination, doctors at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital diagnosed both patients with coma, acute brain syndrome, severe arrhythmia and proceeded to monitor for unknown poisoning (oriented to rat poison containing Natrifluoroacetate).

Doctors provided emergency treatment using acute poisoning treatment regimens, such as: gastric lavage to remove toxins, activated charcoal to limit absorption, intravenous fluid detoxification, blood filtration, mechanical ventilation, cardiac support, emergency cardiac arrest and arrhythmia treatment.
