On September 30, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune ( Quang Tri province) said that on the morning of the same day, many students, including 75 boarding students at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, did not come to class.
Mr. Dang Van Duong, Chairman of Kim Ngan Commune People's Committee, said that after receiving the information, the commune sent officials to inspect, make a record of the incident and report to superiors.
"This afternoon, the commune asked the school teachers, along with the mass front and committee, to go to three villages: Ha Lec, Khe Khe, and An Bai to propagate and mobilize the children to go to class," said Mr. Duong.

Previously, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune had suspended the kitchen, cleaned and disinfected it, and assigned the school to hold a meeting with parents about whether to let the children eat at the boarding school or not after many students were suspected of being poisoned.
“That is a matter between the parents and the school, the two sides must agree, have a record and a report sent to the commune People’s Committee. However, the commune has been affected by storm No. 10 in the past few days so the meeting has not been held yet,” Mr. Duong added.

It is known that the children study at a boarding school more than 10km away from school, and every day they have to wade through several streams. Due to floods and rain, their parents cannot take them to and from school every day.
As reported by VietNamNet, at around 8am on September 26, after breakfast at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School, many students showed symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The school then coordinated with the authorities and parents to mobilize vehicles to take more than 40 students to Le Thuy Regional General Hospital for examination and treatment. After that, a 44-second clip with audio recordings appeared at the school's medical room with the presence of Principal Do Van My, Vice Principal Do Thi Hong Hue, school health staff, a homeroom teacher and many students with symptoms of poisoning.
Although the medical staff suggested transferring the students to the hospital, Ms. Hue - Vice Principal firmly disagreed and affirmed that 100% of the students were normal.
However, Mr. Do Van My explained that Ms. Hue did not forbid taking the children to the hospital but wanted to give them electrolytes and monitor them further. If it was beyond the authority of the medical staff, they would take them.
The children's health has now stabilized and they have been discharged from the hospital. The Quang Tri Provincial Center for Disease Control has taken food samples and 12 rectal fluid samples for testing. All samples have been sent to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang and the results are not yet available.
At the same time, the provincial Department of Education and Training also requested schools to review the entire process of providing boarding meals, and at the same time strengthen supervision and ensure food safety to avoid similar incidents.
