Wander - a tourist from Malaysia who has traveled to Hanoi many times. On his recent trip, he spent time experiencing his favorite dishes, including chicken pho.

He thinks that chicken pho is as delicious as beef pho and is best enjoyed for breakfast.

To have a complete experience and find the dish that best suits his taste, Wander decided to try chicken pho at 2 different restaurants.

These are all restaurants that he randomly visited, conveniently located on the route and itinerary that he planned to explore in the city.

Foreign visitors come to Hanoi and spend time experiencing delicious local dishes, including chicken pho.

The first place he visited was a chicken pho restaurant on Bao Khanh Street. This is also a familiar dining address for many locals.

Here, the male tourist ordered a chicken thigh pho dish for 150,000 VND.

When the dish was served, he commented that the bowl of pho was simply presented but looked quite appealing.

He tasted the first bites of pho and exclaimed with a surprised look, nodding his head in praise of the delicious broth, with a rich and naturally sweet taste from the fresh chicken and thin, smooth pho noodles. The chicken was tender, pinkish in color with a crispy golden skin.

“This is a really good bowl of pho. The chicken thighs are chewy, firm and have a distinctive aroma.

However, the portion seems a bit small compared to the price. Maybe because the restaurant is located in the center, near Hoan Kiem Lake, so the price is higher," Wander shared.

The next pho restaurant the Malaysian guest visited was on Phu Doan Street. The restaurant was honored for 3 consecutive years in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list.

Here, Wander also ordered a chicken thigh pho dish and commented that the appearance was similar to the chicken pho dish he tried at the previous restaurant.

He commented that the chicken pho here has a clearer and lighter broth. The chicken is delicious, firm, not mushy and has a fragrant smell, feels like it has been skillfully boiled to achieve the right amount of fat and juiciness.

The rice noodles are soft, after absorbing the broth they become smooth and soft but still retain their chewy texture, not broken or crumbled when picked up with chopsticks.

Tourists from Malaysia expressed satisfaction after experiencing the second chicken pho dish.

In his personal opinion, the customer said that the chicken at the second restaurant was more appealing than the first, however, the broth was “lacking something” compared to the previous chicken pho restaurant.

“A bowl of chicken pho here costs 60,000 VND, much cheaper than the first restaurant. This is also an impressive point,” he commented.

At the end of the experience, he commented that both chicken pho dishes were delicious and the quality was worthy of the positive reviews from diners.

However, he was more impressed with the second chicken pho dish.

He also suggested that chicken pho at each restaurant will have its own unique characteristics, so visitors can choose a place to experience it according to their needs and preferences to have the most realistic feeling.

The second chicken pho dish is loved by customers because the chicken is soft, juicy, fragrant and has a distinct natural sweetness.

Sharing with reporters, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Thu - owner of the chicken pho restaurant on Phu Doan street that Wander just visited - said that the restaurant was opened by her mother, Ms. Le Thi Minh Nguyet (69 years old) since 2009.

In 2023, the restaurant was honored by Michelin Guide in the Bib Gourmand category - delicious places to eat at affordable prices.

According to the female owner, to have a quality chicken pho dish, the restaurant uses chicken from familiar sources. This type of chicken has firm and fragrant meat, when boiled, not much seasoning is added to keep the original flavor.

After being cleaned and boiled, the chicken will be divided and skillfully separated into parts such as thighs, wings, and breast, and neatly arranged.

When customers order, the staff will start slicing the meat and removing the bones so that the chicken served on the pho bowl is still soft and juicy.

The broth for the restaurant's pho is made from marrow bones and pork leg bones, simmered for half a day. The owner does not choose the pig's leg bones to avoid making the broth cloudy and reducing its deliciousness.

The restaurant also uses soft, chewy rice noodles so they don't crumble or break when poured over with hot broth.

Each bowl of pho at the restaurant costs between 50,000 and 100,000 VND. Chicken breast pho costs 50,000 VND, back pho costs 55,000 VND, thigh or wing pho costs 60,000 VND. If you order 2 types of meat combined or increase the amount of meat, the price ranges from 75,000 to 100,000 VND.
