Room occupancy rate drops sharply

The sales director of a long-standing famous 4-star resort in Phu Quoc told Thanh Nien that there has never been a year when room prices have decreased during the peak summer season. The resort is located in the west of the island, near the center of Duong Dong, convenient for travel, with about 100 rooms and villas, and is selling at a 35% discount. For example, a room of 2.7 million VND is reduced to 1.7 million VND; a room of 3.4 million VND is reduced to 2.2 million VND/night...

"Our resort is currently only at 50% occupancy, and it is forecasted that this summer will reach 70% of last year's occupancy rate. The reason is that Phu Quoc is heavily affected in terms of image, and airfares are still high. For foreign visitors, the impacts of the global economic recession, geopolitical crisis, and flight restrictions also affect the destination of Phu Quoc," he said.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Chi, a tourism expert, commented that Phu Quoc is a saturated destination. Therefore, when new destinations appear, Phu Quoc immediately faces competition. For many years, Phu Quoc has been the choice of many families and young people looking to check-in, but recently it has been competed by a number of new destinations in terms of both image and price. One of them is Phu Quy Island, Mui Ne of Binh Thuan .

According to Mr. Chi, the trip is "worth every penny", not to mention that tourists can also enjoy the pristine scenery, fresh and cheap seafood, gentle people, and a lifestyle on the island that is not crowded or chaotic. "With the total cost per person mentioned above, if I go to Phu Quoc, I can only buy 1 plane ticket. It is true that Phu Quoc has many services and attractions, but tourists have become accustomed to it over the years," said Mr. Chi.
