80 years ago, on September 23, 1945, with the ambition to invade our country once again, the French colonialists opened fire to attack the headquarters of the young revolutionary government in Saigon, starting the second war of invasion of our country just 21 days after President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Fulfilling the oath "Rather sacrifice everything than lose the country, than become slaves", the people of the South continued to stand up and fight to maintain the independence of the Vietnamese nation.
Recognizing and praising the indomitable spirit of the army and people of the South, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Government, awarded the people of the South the glorious title "Citadel of the Fatherland".
