Discover Thanh Ha pottery village, a tourist attraction in Da Nang

(NLDO) - Thanh Ha Pottery Village (Hoi An Tay Ward, Da Nang City) is becoming a unique cultural and experiential tourism destination.

With over 500 years of existence, this is one of the oldest craft villages in the Central region that still "keeps the fire alive" every day, contributing to enriching the Hoi An tourism map.

Located along the Thu Bon River, Thanh Ha pottery village (in Hoi An city, old Quang Nam province) stands out with its rustic space and traditional handmade pottery techniques passed down through many generations.

The pottery here is known for its distinctive reddish-brown color, high durability and sophistication in every detail. Once flourishing in the 16th-17th centuries, the village's products were chosen to be presented to the king.

Today, though it no longer has its former glory, Thanh Ha still burns brightly through the persistent hands of its artisans. People like Mr. Long (a 70-year-old artisan with 50 years of experience in the profession) still work tirelessly day and night at the turntable and kiln.

"My family has been making pottery for over a hundred years. This profession has supported the whole family. Even though it is hard, we still cannot bear to give it up," Mr. Long shared while meticulously glazing a clay vase.

Thanks to the efforts of the people to preserve traditional values ​​and the support from the local government, Thanh Ha pottery village has been strongly "revived", becoming an unmissable destination for tourists when coming to Hoi An.

Not only is this place open to visitors every day, it also offers free pottery making experiences for visitors. Visitors can directly knead the clay, create shapes and take the products home as souvenirs.

The craft village space is neatly planned with production workshops, sightseeing paths, product display and sales areas. In addition to traditional items such as jars, pots, vases, teapots..., the village also produces many types of ceramic handicrafts and compact souvenirs to suit the tastes of modern tourists.

The feeling of "breathing life into clay" is the special attraction of this experience.

Khanh Linh (20 years old, from Gia Lai ) came to Hoi An for the first time and had a memorable experience at Thanh Ha pottery village. "At first, I was clumsy because I was not used to it, but the teachers and staff guided me very enthusiastically. When the clay rotated on the turntable, it felt like breathing life into a living object" - Linh excitedly shared.

For Linh, a morning in Thanh Ha is not just a tourist activity but also an opportunity to understand more about the perseverance and dedication of ceramic artisans. "I really admire them. A profession that requires such patience and delicacy has been preserved through many generations. Perhaps, only true love can make people so attached" - Linh said.

The combination of craft villages and tourism has opened up a new direction for the local community, creating stable livelihoods and at the same time contributing to preserving a part of the precious intangible cultural heritage of Quang Nam.
