Affirming the pioneering position in training and research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU

On May 31, 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in collaboration with the Thang Long Center for Education Quality Assessment held a Ceremony to announce the Decision and award the Certificate of Quality Assessment for 07 university-level training programs of the University, including: Journalism, Public Relations, Management Science, Hotel Management, Office Management, Religious Studies and Vietnamese Studies.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of all parties. On the side of Thang Long Education Quality Assessment Center, there were Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung - Director, Dr. Phi Thi Nguyet Thanh - Deputy Director. On the side of the units under VNU, there was the participation of Dr. Bui Vu Anh - Deputy Director of the Institute for Education Quality Assurance - VNU. On the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Standing Member of the Party Committee, Vice Rector; Dr. Phan Van Kien - Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training; Dr. Vu Huong Lan - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Tourism Studies; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Dung - Head of the Faculty of Management Sciences ; Dr. Cam Anh Tuan - Head of the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Administration; Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam - Head of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Kim Oanh - Head of the Department of Religious Studies. In addition, there were also the participation of leaders of functional departments, lecturers, researchers of affiliated Faculties/Institutes/Departments, and student representatives of 07 training programs awarded Certificates.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung - Director of Thang Long Education Quality Assessment Center highly appreciated the serious spirit, "doing it for real, with real quality, not afraid of change" of the Board of Directors and lecturers, staff, students of the school in the process of implementing the assessment program. The school regularly approaches different sets of domestic and international standards to complete training programs, move towards autonomy in training activities, high-quality training majors, international joint programs... Compared with the current rate of 17 - 18% of training programs nationwide that are assessed, we can see the outstanding efforts of teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in teaching and learning activities, scientific research and community service.

The granting of the Certificate of Quality Accreditation for 07 undergraduate training programs is an important milestone demonstrating the development of the University, requiring the University to increasingly improve its training programs to meet the expectations of society. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Phung also believes that with a sustainable development strategy, with the mission of being a pioneer in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources; researching, creating and disseminating knowledge of Social Sciences and Humanities, serving the cause of building, defending the Fatherland and international integration, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will achieve its strategic goal by 2025 to put the University in the group of 150 leading universities in Asia, in 2035 in the group of 100 leading universities in the continent and on par with advanced universities (in the group of 500) in the world .

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, said that with a deep awareness of the importance of quality assurance and quality accreditation, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the first institution in the Vietnam National University, Hanoi to build an Education Quality Assurance Center since 2006 and is also one of the pioneers in building an internal quality assurance system, strongly implementing self-assessment and external assessment activities for training programs. Up to now, 18/31 undergraduate training programs of the school have been accredited according to domestic and international standards.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, the 07 training programs receiving the Certificate of Quality Accreditation represent 02 important groups of majors of the school. The first group is the training majors with high applicability, serving the needs of high-quality human resources of society, attracting a large number of students, such as Journalism, Public Relations, Management Science, Hotel Management, Office Management. The second group is the basic science majors that play an important role in the cause of building, developing and protecting the country, such as Religious Studies, Vietnamese Studies.

The special point is that among these training programs, there are many majors that demonstrate the leading and pioneering role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the field of training. The Faculty of Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Studies is the unit with the most tradition in the country in training Vietnamese language and culture for more than half a century, and is now the only unit in Vietnam to build 02 training programs for two separate subjects: Vietnamese and foreigners. The Department of Religious Studies is also the first and only program (as of 2022) to train a full-time bachelor's degree in Religious Studies.

The profound and accurate advice and guidance from the External Evaluation Team has helped the school to increasingly improve its internal quality assurance system, serving teaching and learning activities. With 100% of the members of the External Evaluation Team passing, 07 training programs of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU have met the accreditation standards according to the Standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Previously, the accreditation activities at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, were deployed from December 2022 and went through strict and rigorous assessment steps according to the Regulations on quality assessment standards of university-level training programs of Circular No. 04/2016/TT-BGDDT.
