School surrounded by floodwaters
The storm had just passed, many schools in Duc Minh commune ( Ha Tinh ) had not yet had time to clean up, when the flood came again. Many schools in the area are struggling to bear the double consequences of natural disasters.

At present, Duc Minh commune has 7 flooded schools, including: 3 kindergartens, 3 primary schools and 1 secondary school.
Of these, 4 schools had floodwaters flowing into the classrooms, causing severe flooding. 3 other schools had deep flooding in the yard, 1 school had its roof completely blown off, 1 school had its gate collapsed. Most of the schools had damaged roofs. The most seriously flooded areas were 4 schools: Tung Chau Kindergarten and Primary School, and Lien Minh Kindergarten and Primary School. Up to now, about 2,000 students in Duc Minh commune have not been able to return to school.

"The whole commune has 2,855 flooded households, 89 traffic routes are cut off, currently only 8/21 villages have electricity again", Mr. Le Dinh Tai - Vice Chairman of Duc Minh Commune People's Committee informed.
Students cannot go to class, teachers cannot return to school
At Tung Chau Primary School (Thanh Kim village), the water level was about 60cm deep in the classrooms. The school quickly moved tables, chairs, and teaching equipment to the second floor, but because the water level rose so quickly, some furniture that could not be moved in time is still submerged in water.

Although the school is located at a higher position than other villages, this flood suddenly came quickly and strongly, causing the water to flood the school yard with a water level of up to 1.3m - 1.4m, even more than 1.5m in some places. Compared to 5 years ago, this is the highest water level ever recorded since the Ngan Truoi dam was formed.
Tung Chau Primary School currently has 240 students in a total of 10 classes. The school principal said: “Students have been off school since September 28 to avoid the storm. However, after the storm, floodwaters rose and the roads were submerged, so students continued to be off school.”

According to Mr. Chuong - Principal of the school, on the morning of September 29, when teachers and staff came to clean up after the storm, the flood water had already reached the school gate. Before the storm could be cleared, teachers continued to roll up their sleeves to move desks, chairs, and supplies to the second floor. However, the water rose quickly, and in a short while, it began to flood the school yard and classrooms. Therefore, many classrooms' desks and chairs were still submerged in flood water.
“Before the storm, we had packed up and moved the students’ books and supplies to higher ground. But we did not expect the floodwaters to rise so quickly and so high. The floodwaters were very turbid, with a lot of sediment, so cleaning up after the water receded would be extremely difficult,” said Mr. Chuong.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - Principal of Tung Chau Kindergarten shared that the school yard was flooded up to 80cm deep, and teachers and staff still could not access it. After the storm, when the principal and teachers returned to check, water had flooded in and the school roof was also blown off.
"We had not yet had time to clean up after the storm before we had to flee the flood. Since September 29, teachers have not been able to enter the school because the roads are flooded. They have to go by boat. The school is very anxious, just hoping the water recedes soon so we can fix it, repair it and prepare to welcome students back," Ms. Hang said.
The series of natural disasters has left many educational institutions in dire straits. Not only has the physical infrastructure been damaged, but the education of thousands of students has also been disrupted.
