Inauguration of the bell tower at Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi

VHO - On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), on August 21, the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center held the inauguration ceremony of the bell tower at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi.

On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi (October 2010), the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association presented three sacred objects to the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long: a large drum, a large gong and a large bell, contributing to the overall success of the ceremony.

Over time, due to the harsh effects of weather and natural disasters, the drum's face and belt have been loosened; the bell tower has seriously degraded.

With the desire that the historical value of these sacred objects will always be preserved, maintained, and the traditional cultural value of craft villages will continue to be promoted for today and tomorrow, the Chairman of the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association has worked and agreed with the Board of Directors of the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center on a plan to overhaul the drum, rebuild the bell tower with a similar scale and form to the Drum Tower and some other related small items.

The restoration of the above sacred objects shows the deep respect and gratitude of the Hanoi craft village community, paying tribute to the ancestors, wise kings, and talented people who have contributed to the country and the origin of their ancestors.

The Association has called for and received support from members, artisans, and businesses to contribute to not only restoring a symbol, but also preserving the nation's cultural memory for future generations.

After the construction period, the bell tower was completed, together with the drum tower, becoming a highlight in the landscape space of the heritage. This is a very meaningful gift, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the value of traditional Vietnamese craft villages in general, the world cultural heritage of the Central Area of ​​the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular, the thousand-year-old cultural quintessence of the Vietnamese people.

At the inauguration ceremony of the project handover, the President of the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association, Ha Thi Vinh, together with members of the Craft Village Association, presented the bell tower to the representative of the Thang Long - Hanoi Conservation Center for the Center to use and put into operation to serve important traditional ceremonies at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, as well as serve visitors to the heritage.
