Today, August 11, Hanoi Medical University held a graduation ceremony for bachelors of medicine and medical doctors for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a special training course, due to the unprecedented high entrance scores for many majors, including general medicine at Hanoi Medical University.
Admission scores for medical majors in 2017 of Hanoi Medical University
HANOI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
This year, the whole school has 806 medical doctor graduates from the 2017-2023 course (not including the 2nd degree in preventive medicine), including 4 majors: general practitioner (including students trained at Thanh Hoa Branch), traditional medicine doctor, preventive medicine doctor, and maxillofacial doctor. Of which, the general practitioner major has 488 graduates.
There are 322 medical bachelor graduates from 2019 to 2023, including 5 majors: nursing, medical laboratory technology, ophthalmology, public health , and nutrition.
According to Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Binh, Head of the University Training Management Department (Hanoi Medical University), for the medical profession in general and general practitioner in particular, this is a special admission course. The students were admitted in 2017, the third year the Ministry of Education and Training conducted the national high school exam, but it was the first year that the two exam clusters were combined into one. Before that (2015, 2016), there were two exam clusters, one cluster organized by universities, and one cluster organized by localities.
At the same time, that was also the year that the benchmark score for the medical doctor program of the school (training in Hanoi, with 500 quotas) increased to an unprecedented high in the admission history of the oldest university in Vietnam, 29.25 points. That means if a candidate only has 2 scores of 10 in 3 subjects, and the remaining score is only 9 points, he/she will still fail the first choice.
Despite such a record high benchmark score, the graduation results of the new general practitioners of the 2017-2023 course of Hanoi Medical University are similar to previous years.
The graduation rate of general medicine majors with excellent grades is 14.59% (last year it was 12.6%); good grades are 73.36% (last year it was 75.5%). According to Professor Nguyen Huu Tu, Principal of Hanoi Medical University, the graduation rate of general medicine majors with good grades of about 80% has been the normal level of the school for many years.

However, according to Professor Tu, this is a course that enhances specialized techniques, practice skills, practice new subjects, and integrate internationally. In particular, students of the course are allowed to participate in scientific research, community activities, and disease prevention and control. This will be an important condition to help new doctors soon meet the requirements of medical examination and treatment after graduation.
Professor Tu said that medical training is a difficult field, requiring students to be passionate and diligent. High entrance scores are only a favorable factor for students to be able to study medicine, but not the decisive factor in helping them become good students or good doctors in the future.
