(NLDO) - Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police have prosecuted and temporarily detained Duong Huu Tri, the suspect who attacked and killed a mobile police officer.

On March 4, the Investigation Police Agency of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province prosecuted and temporarily detained Duong Huu Tri (also known as Ty Heo, born in 1987, residing in Ward 7, Vung Tau City). Tri is the suspect who used a knife to attack and cause the death of a mobile police officer.

Duong Huu Tri was prosecuted for investigation on three charges of "murder", "property destruction", and "resisting law enforcement officers".

According to the investigation agency, at about 7:35 a.m. on March 3, a working group of Ward 7 Police, Vung Tau City, came to the house to invite Duong Huu Tri (also known as Ty Heo, born in 1987) to the headquarters for drug testing according to regulations. Tri is a subject of post-rehabilitation management in the locality.

However, Tri did not comply, used a knife to chase and slash, tearing the shirt of an officer of the security force of Ward 7, then turned back to burn the working group's motorbike, then Tri went into the house to barricade himself.

Upon receiving the news, the Regional Criminal Investigation Team in charge of Vung Tau City assigned forces to coordinate with the Office of the Police Investigation Agency, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, the Mobile Police Department, and Ward 7 Police to persuade and persuade Tri, but he did not comply, continued to barricade himself in the house, cursed, and threatened to use weapons to attack the police force. Tri stood upstairs and used boiling water to splash on the police force, causing a police officer from Ward 7 Police to be burned.

Faced with the above situation, the working group including Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat (born 2001) approached to control the subject and was stabbed once in the chest by Tri with a knife.

The task force took Sergeant Nhat to Vung Tau Hospital for emergency treatment, but he died at around 1:30 p.m. At the same time, the Criminal Police Department at the scene controlled and arrested the suspect and brought him to the headquarters for questioning.

On the same morning, Colonel Vu Nhu Ha, Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, signed a decision to promote the rank from corporal to sergeant major (promotion beyond the rank), starting from March 3, 2025, for comrade Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat (born 2001), a soldier of the Mobile Police Department, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, who died while on duty.

In order to encourage and share the great loss of Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat's family, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Chairman of the Management Board of the Police Comradeship Fund, also signed a decision to support the family of Sergeant Nhat with 100 million VND.
