Will Saigon University have a new headquarters in the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau?

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance proposed to hand over the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Administrative - Political Center to Saigon University as an educational institution.

On September 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance announced that it had sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, proposing a plan to arrange the headquarters of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Administrative - Political Center at 179 Bach Dang Street, Ba Ria Ward, for Saigon University to use as an educational facility. Saigon University will return the houses and land that have been assigned to the city for management and use.

According to the HCM City Department of Finance, up to now, the departments, branches and sectors under the City People's Committee have basically relocated and concentrated their work in HCM City. The Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Administrative - Political Center only uses a small area to arrange work for staff of departments and agencies under agencies and units to handle transitional work, ensuring the provision of public services to organizations and individuals.

To ensure the effective operation of the headquarters of the Administrative - Political Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, closely following the direction of the Prime Minister to prioritize the arrangement for healthcare, education and culture, currently through coordination and working with universities, there is a need to use it to expand educational facilities, including Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Saigon University in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine is currently managing and using 4 real estate facilities. Previously, Saigon University was assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to manage and use 4 real estate facilities, but in 2016, the City People's Committee reclaimed the land in Tan Phong Ward and leased it to Ton Duc Thang University to invest in construction and expansion of educational and training facilities; at the same time, directed agencies to find and assign land in other locations to Saigon University.

Thus, up to now, Saigon University is managing and using 3 buildings and land facilities, and is still lacking another land location that has not been assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance proposed a plan to arrange the headquarters of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Administrative - Political Center for Saigon University to use as an educational facility.

In another development, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance is currently coordinating with the City People's Committee Office to study the proposal of Becamex Corporation on converting the Binh Duong Provincial Administrative Center into the Ho Chi Minh City Science Center and a multi-purpose science and technology building.

Binh Duong Provincial Administrative Center Building is a property managed by the Office of the People's Committee of Binh Duong Province (old), now the Office of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
