Ho Chi Minh City maintains its position in innovation

(NLDO)- The new Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be a large multi-centered city in the Southeast Asian region, aiming to play the role of a center of innovation and technology in the region.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Science and Technology on the morning of October 1, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 2nd in the Local Innovation Index (PII) 2025 with 59.33 points. The highlight of the city is that it leads the country in infrastructure pillars, even having 13/52 indexes leading the country.

This is the third consecutive year the city has held the second position, demonstrating the country's pioneering position with many favorable conditions for socio -economic development based on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, member of the City Party Committee and Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the city has now established a system linking the components of the science and technology market in the Southeast region with the technology exchange in Ho Chi Minh City.

"This linkage system will play a key role in connecting and supporting supply and demand parties, supporting the commercialization of scientific research results and technology development, effectively supporting technology transfer enterprises, contributing to the modernization of technical infrastructure systems, and promoting the development of the science and technology market," Mr. Lam Dinh Thang emphasized.

Accordingly, scientific and technological results and solutions from institutes, schools or businesses will have "outputs" to be brought into the market, applied to innovate, improve production and business capacity, thereby creating economic value.

Furthermore, the city has also created a new technology testing environment to assess the risks and effectiveness of technology solutions in accordance with market needs, legal frameworks, management regulations, and to resolve legal issues for testing new technology solutions.

In May 2025, StartupBlink announced that Ho Chi Minh City rose 1 place to 110th place globally, achieving its highest ranking ever, and for the first time entered the top 5 leading innovative startup ecosystems in Southeast Asia.

Accordingly, the city continues to hold the leading position in the Vietnamese startup ecosystem, and is assessed to have the potential for sustainable and regional development, currently ranking in the top 30 globally in Blockchain, and 2nd in Southeast Asia.

According to the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, after the merger, the city will have more space and resources for development, contributing to firmly consolidating its position as the country's economic locomotive, and possibly creating a breakthrough in growth.

The new Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be a large multi-centered urban area in the Southeast Asian region, aiming to play the role of a center of innovation and technology in the region.

Not only that, in the recent period, Ho Chi Minh City has signed a series of cooperation agreements with South Korea and Singapore to open a series of trade connection activities, promote innovation, as well as attract leading foreign direct investment (FDI).

There are an estimated 1,560 projects from Singapore in the city, with a total registered capital of about 13.6 billion USD.
