Never 'sing for free', want to close the noise with Do Hieu

VTC NewsVTC News02/11/2023

Speaking to VietNamNet, singer Noo Phuoc Thinh said he has been silent for many days because he wants the controversy to end peacefully . However, social networks are currently filled with a lot of negative and untrue information.

Noo Phuoc Thinh has been active in showbiz for many years so he always respects copyrights and the contributions of musicians, affirming that he never 'sings for free' as reported on the internet.

By law, the music performance organizer is responsible for applying for a license and paying copyright fees through VCPMC - Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center. This unit will work directly with member musicians like Do Hieu.

After 2 years of exclusive rights to 8 hit songs, singer Noo Phuoc Thinh decided not to renew the contract because of " some personal reasons between the two parties that Do Hieu understands better than anyone".

He believes that this is a civil matter, whether the agreement is renewed or not is very normal, and is not a story that "should be pushed too far".

Currently, Noo Phuoc Thinh has no intention of continuing to exclusively use these songs. When there is a need to use them, he will discuss with the author in the spirit of fully respecting the provisions of the law.

"Why didn't Do Hieu speak up right after the exclusive rights to the hit songs expired and wait until now? There are reasons between the two of them that make me not compromise," the singer said.

Regarding the announcement of the singing ban, Noo Phuoc Thinh responded: "I'm not trying to be shameless in using it. If I wanted to, I would proactively pay to sing, why would I ban it? I regret the hit songs, they are associated with my name. I just want to make it clear so that the audience understands that they trust the right person. And I don't argue with Do Hieu."

Regarding his long-term relationship with Do Hieu, he understands the law of reunion and separation, so he feels regretful but not too sad. However, according to the singer, "everything should have a limit."

Regarding Do Hieu's claim that Noo Phuoc Thinh's side "exploited and used works on many new digital platforms without notification or profit sharing", Mr. Tuan Khanh - manager of singer Noo Phuoc Thinh said the company only signed a contract with Zing MP3, using this platform as a focal point to work with other digital platforms.

When the incident occurred, Mr. Khanh contacted Zing MP3 and was informed that the copyright fees for the author and the performer were clearly defined. Currently, Do Hieu has not signed a contract with Zing MP3, so this platform has kept the copyright fees of the musician for nearly 10 years.

Noo Phuoc Thinh added: "That money certainly won't go into my pocket. I'm just taking care of my rights."

Previously, musician Do Hieu announced that he banned singer Noo Phuoc Thinh from performing 8 hit songs associated with his name, including: Mai mai ben nhau, Gat di nuoc mat, Hold me tonight, Don't look back, Coming together is wrong, Cause I love you, Please don't let go and Nhu phut ban dat .

These songs were released between 2014 and 2018, and Noo Phuoc Thinh signed an exclusive contract for exploitation and use for 2 years. When the term expired, he did not renew the old contract or renegotiate or agree on copyright fees.

For many years, according to Do Hieu, Noo Phuoc Thinh only contacted to ask for permission to perform for big shows, ignoring many small shows at venues such as bars, clubs, lounges...

In addition, the singer also sold these works on a number of online platforms that were not part of the original agreement without notifying the author.

Musician Do Hieu proactively contacted singer Noo Phuoc Thinh and his manager, but received silence in return, so he felt disrespected. When the incident broke out, both sides started negotiating but could not find common ground.

Therefore, Do Hieu prohibits singer Noo Phuoc Thinh from exploiting and using these 8 songs from November 1, 2023. Any act of exploitation and use without the author's permission will be considered a violation of copyright.
