" Try to reward 1 million VND/person with a gift ", that is what Mr. Vu The Ha, Director of a food business, specializing in packaging gift boxes in Hoang Mai district, Hanoi , shared when talking about the 2025 Tet bonus plan for employees.
" Because the economy is still facing many difficulties this year and revenue is not large, our company can only give each worker a food gift package including 20 eggs, 1 bottle of wine, 1 package of cake, 1 2-liter bottle of cooking oil and 1 million VND in cash, " said Mr. Ha.
According to Mr. Ha, the Tet gift, although not much, shows the encouragement and motivation of the enterprise for the workers: " We also hope that the workers will share the difficulties with the enterprise, accompany the enterprise in the coming year to develop together. The Tet bonus as above is also a great effort of ours. Because with about 230 employees, the Tet bonus of the enterprise has reached several hundred million VND ".

Similarly, Mr. Tran Quang Ngoc, Director of Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 6 (Phu Ly City, Ha Nam ) is also "aiming" at this bonus level for his company's workers. " We know this is just a symbolic bonus, very little, but in the current difficult context, the company can only support like that. Hopefully the difficulties will soon pass and in 2025, the Tet bonus level will be improved ," Mr. Ngoc hopes.
Mr. Ngoc said that in the past year, his company had to lay off many workers. The reason was that the partners broke the contract, could not provide stone, sand and construction materials when the authorities checked, evaluated, inspected and strictly handled the exploitation exceeding the permitted quota, volume and area. This caused Mr. Ngoc's company to be seriously affected because there was no supply and had to reduce the scale and cut staff. According to Mr. Ngoc, this is a common difficulty of many construction companies.
Also in the same situation, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dat, Director of a construction and mining company based in Hanoi, had to cut more than 50% of his workforce in just a few months. “ My company, which had more than 200 employees, has now reduced more than 50% due to difficulties in mining. But even so, I will still try to give Tet bonuses to my employees, no matter how much. I expect each person to get 2-3 million VND ,” Mr. Dat calculated.
According to him, the difficulties are already difficult, the enterprise accepts a little more deficit to pay the Tet bonus for the workers because they work hard all year round just to wait for Tet. Only then will they feel secure to stick with the enterprise next year, thereby contributing to the gradual recovery as before.
In the difficult business context, many businesses admit that they are still unable to consider giving Tet bonuses to their employees. Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, owner of a recycled plastic product manufacturing business in Thanh Tri district (Hanoi), said that up to this point, he and the company's leadership team still do not have a feasible plan to give Tet bonuses to the company's more than 200 employees due to a sharp decline in sales in 2024. " Maintaining and trying not to owe salaries is already a big challenge for businesses ," Mr. Truong shared.
A leader in the confectionery industry revealed that this year, cost pressure, declining consumer demand and fierce competition in the global market have caused manufacturing enterprises to face many challenges, struggling to maintain cash flow, making it even more difficult to pay large bonuses such as Tet bonuses.
Many units have had to come up with plans to use surplus goods to make Tet gifts to save costs and maintain operations. At the same time, they can increase holidays or organize internal events for employees to compensate for the small Tet bonus.
" Every business wants to give Tet bonuses to its employees. But in difficult circumstances, staying strong is the most important goal. Only when a business exists will its employees have jobs and receive salaries. Therefore, I believe that when employees receive a limited Tet bonus, although they may feel sad, they will still sympathize with the business.
In reality, the Tet bonus is not the same every year. Businesses operating in the market must accept that there will be winning years and losing years, depending on the market and many other factors ," the leader commented.
