Klopp confirmed MU made a mistake with Ronaldo and Pogba. |
On the podcast The Diary of a CEO , Klopp shared: "They approached me, but the timing was not right. I had a contract with Dortmund, and more importantly, the project they proposed was not mine. The idea of 'we'll take all the best players' didn't feel like the path I wanted to take." He stressed that the purely football project at Liverpool in 2016 was what interested him.
Klopp also frankly criticized MU's two controversial deals in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era: "Re-signing Pogba? He was excellent but was ineffective when he returned. Ronaldo? Everyone knows he's the best in the world , but bringing him back never really helped the club."
The German coach also analyzed the reason why MU has been struggling for many years: "At MU, they try to solve problems immediately, buying players continuously, but other teams are also developing. Liverpool, Arsenal or Man City all build long-term plans. MU is busy with the rush strategy so they fall behind."
After leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2024, Klopp ended a journey of nearly 25 years of continuous involvement in coaching. He quickly took on the role of Global Director of Football for the Red Bull Group. Klopp oversaw the operations of many clubs in the system, no longer directly under pressure of performance on the field.
