Mysterious million-year-old cave complex in Da Nang recognized as provincial relic

On July 21, the People's Committee of Thanh Binh Commune, Da Nang City held a ceremony to receive the provincial-level relic ranking certificate for the Bat Cave scenic spot.

Bat Cave is located in Tien An commune, Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam (old), now Thanh Binh commune, Da Nang city, and was ranked as a provincial relic by the People's Committee of the old Quang Nam province (now Da Nang city).

According to Mr. Duong Duc Lin - Chairman of Thanh Binh Commune People's Committee, although Thanh Binh is a newly established commune, it is a cultural and historical region with a history of hundreds of millions of years, a place with strong imprints and evidence of prehistoric culture, Sa Huynh culture, and Cham culture.

Evidence of the natural weathering process on the earth's crust has left behind many breathtakingly beautiful landscapes such as Lo Thung, Bat Cave, O Waterfall - Vin Abyss, and Deo Lieu water hole.

Among them, Bat Cave is highly appreciated by geologists for its natural, cultural and historical value, likened to a Jurassic Park with fossil arrays.

Bat Cave complex was formed from 530 to 158 million years ago, one of the oldest rock formations in the Quang Nam - Da Nang region.

The rocks of the Kham Duc and Nui Vu formations are metamorphic rocks exposed widely in the Bat Cave scenic spot, clearly shown through their color, foliated structure, and micro-folding.

This is a rare exposure in the tropics because it only exposes bedrock, while in most other places (in Yen Bai , Nghe An and the Central Highlands) bedrock is heavily weathered.

The exposed bedrock of Bat Cave is like a natural museum of geological activity, contributing to clarifying the history of an important geological development stage of the Earth.

Bat Cave has a charming natural landscape. The slate cliffs are very sharply abraded, creating strange and attractive lines like ancient characters on the surface of the cliffs. The rocks are majestic, strong, and have majestic shapes.

During the resistance war against France and the US, Bat Cave was the base of revolutionary organizations of Zone V, the Provincial Party Committee and Tien Phuoc district. This was the place chosen by the QB 150 engineering workshop of Zone V as the base for the production of weapons and ammunition.

Thanks to the abundant source of bat guano in the caves, QB 150 Engineering Workshop in Zone V exploited it to produce gunpowder, ensuring a source of ammunition for the entire battlefield in Zone V.

Mr. Lin said that Bat Cave has been planned as a destination and is one of the outstanding spots with potential for developing local eco-tourism.

Many scientists and artists have come to Bat Cave to research and compose, this is a good sign for the development of tourism activities in the future.
