Ca Giay Lake and Luy River discharge floodwaters, downstream areas proactively take prevention plans

In recent days, due to heavy rains, water levels in many reservoirs in the southeastern region of the province have increased. On October 1st alone, two large reservoirs, Ca Giay and Song Luy, began to discharge floodwaters and adjust their water levels. In this situation, authorities in the downstream areas have advised people to urgently evacuate their assets, livestock, and agricultural products and comply with preventive measures to limit damage.

Accordingly, on October 1, the People's Committee of Song Luy commune informed that according to information from the Song Luy Lake Management Board, the amount of water flowing into the lake is currently increasing. Therefore, to ensure safety, the Lake Management Board will increase the flow through the spillway from 30m3 to 60m3 /s. The increase will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on October 1.

Immediately upon receiving the information, in order to ensure the safety of life and property when the spill is released, the People's Committee of Song Luy commune has issued a written notice, requesting people living along the river, stream, and downstream of the lake to proactively move their property, livestock, poultry, agricultural products and other necessary items to a safe place. In particular, absolutely do not cross, fish or engage in other activities on the river, stream, and downstream area during the spill.

Song Luy Commune People's Committee also requested that villages promptly notify each household, regularly monitor the situation and be ready to support when requested.

On the same day, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (Lam Dong province) said that at 11:00 a.m. on October 1, it had regulated the discharge with a flow rate of 5 m 3 / s at Ca Giay lake. After that, depending on the water flow to the lake and the downstream situation, the flow rate will increase from 10 - 50 m 3 / s.

The reason is that in recent days, the Ca Giay reservoir basin and some reservoirs in the region have had rain, locally over 91 mm of rain in some places. As of the afternoon of September 30, the water level of Ca Giay reservoir was at +74.85 m, 0.05 m higher than the normal water level, the amount of water freely overflowing is about 2 m 3 /s, while the amount of water flowing into the reservoir at this time is 29 m 3 /s. Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited requested the People's Committees of Hai Ninh, Hong Thai, Bac Binh, and Phan Ri Cua communes to inform people along the flood discharge route of Ca Giay reservoir and the river mouth of the situation; proactively deploy prevention plans and ensure safety.

At Song Quao Lake alone, the expected regulation time will start from 7am on October 2nd; the discharge will be regulated at a flow rate of 2-10 m3 /s. After that, depending on the amount of water coming to the lake and the downstream situation, the regulated flow rate will increase to 20-150 m3 /s.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the coming days, Lam Dong province will continue to have rain. Therefore, regulating water through the spillway is to increase the flood prevention capacity of the reservoir, ensure the safety of the project, and at the same time reduce flooding in the downstream area when heavy rain occurs.
